Indeed, for such a wealthy country, with so much space and such a tiny population, it’s embarrassing how few refugees are able to come to Australia each year.
60 million is only a few big world cities for goodness sake! Imagine the employment that would be generated if Australia were to strategically build cities to welcome 60 million refugees. Imagine the economic boost in the future. But above all imagine the lives of all those people and how we can change for them.
Immigration stimulates growth by increasing demand for many things. Our government has cut immigration and our economy is stagnant. If not for immigration we would already be in recession.
If not for immigration none of us would be here if not Aboriginal.
EVERYONE in Australia is an "Immigrant", Just because the indigenous population got here 40,000 years ago or so doesn't change the fact that Human kind Didn't evolve on this continent and EVERYONE here now migrated here or were born here from people that migrated in the first place.
Don't get me started on "Sit Down Money"[bigwhistle]
And this is the part of the problem people see. Most of these refugees come from a culture or ideology that want to change the places they arrive at to suit their lifestyle and beliefs. They want their own laws that they believe are above the laws and constitution of the country they now call home. They want to enclave themselves in areas where no one else is allowed to venture. They want us to respect their ways yet show little or no respect for ours. Many schools and childcare centres no longer celebrate Easter or Christmas for fear of offending what are essentially minority groups. Poligamy is illegal, so they call them mulitple de facto relationships, which are allowed. Two wives, 12 children, why would you want to work if the government are going to pay you a significant amount of assistance in the form of parenting payments, family allowance, rental assitance, newstart and probably other benefits I am unware of and most likely, ineligible to recieve.
Sorry, but it is my belief that refugees are educated, on arrival, by do-gooders and their own social networks how to milk the system.
If this offends someone, oh well, you're not injured or dead just offended.
Nothing to do with narcissism or prejudice, this is what people see. Please tell where I am wrong, always happy to be corrected.
I have no issue with refugees coming to Australia to start a new life, but they are not coming here to start a new country. Do not come here and try to change our living standards, laws or way of life, we like it just the way it is.
If we as a country show them the respect of welcoming them and providing them with security and freedom, why do they continually play the victim card? Yes, they are (mostly) victims of atrocities as the result of civil unrest, however, once they arrive here they are no longer victims. Just get on with your life as you see fit and leave the rest of country to live theirs as they wish. I don't want to change them or the things they do as a people but don't tell me how to live my life and what I should be doing no matter how "offensive" it may be to their beliefs.
We like beer, bbq's and bikinis, accept it.
