a simple solution is to quadruple the size of the army. to qualify for centrelink you must serve 12 months in the army.

during those 12 months they have learnt skills which are useful in the workforce. even if its basic such as turning up on time.

I don't know if you have served or not but some people just aren't suited to the military. Basic training is designed to weed them out. I saw people have complete breakdowns because they couldn't cope.
I would suggest that there would need to be some other type of community service for those and then you would need exemptions for the disabled etc. and then it would all start to slide into the mess we have with the GST.

As always these things aren't black and white with a simple solution.

    ok now's we're talking!

other types of community service, yes, there are plenty of jobs around the community that need doing.
how many roads need fixing? for example.

obvious disabled people will need to be purged as they they are not contributing to society.

I heard about this bloke in Germany who had similar ideas and the country gained full employment, his mate in Italy even got the trains running on time, it worked so well that the he tried to help out other countries with his great ideas and went on tour espousing them. It turns out the Russians didn't like being told they were inferior and British preferred not to have him visit. Everyone had full employment for a while but the WHS situation was terrible.

Did you know the Army chiefs were against conscription for Vietnam because of the huge problems of trying to train men who didn't want to serve? They only wanted to enlist volunteers as regular soldiers.
Ask about the experiences of countries who still have conscription. You'll find it doesn't work unless there is a severe threat which causes people to volunteer anyway, such as in South Korea.
How would Australia benefit from forcing people to do a year's military service. It's not long enough to learn a trade. We'd just have a lot of people who hated authority and were trained to use guns. Gun crime would soar.

the idea is they arnt actually serving as soldiers. more a pool of govt workers that can be used for anything.

maybe make it 3 years then. dont even need to lean a trade, just the basics. the idea is we're getting people upskilled and available to tackle national infrastructure projects. how many unemployed do we have? lets say a million. thats a million people who are not being utilised to make this country better. lets put them to work before we give them a handout.

even if only half of that million are capable of working, thats still half a million people we can use. use them to tackle climate change. get them to plant 10 trees a day. thats 1.2 billion trees planted each year.

its pretty simple. there is plenty of work to be done. there are plenty of people who dont have work.
