No, I think you'll find our welfare system compares poorly to many countries, particularly Europe.
Australia has one of the most generous welfare systems in the world, Thats why all those bloody refugees are making a beeline for Australia.
For all those crying about the low amount of income on the dole just thank your lucky stars you are in Australia and not some other country.![]()

I think you’ll find it doesn’t. You socialists love beating down your own country for some reason.

Name those countries and then tell me (Truthfully) that they haven't got real problems with their new arrivals
In many countries there is No such thing as the dole and in many others you have to contribute via your pay packet to be eligible for assistance which would make quite a lot of Australians and new arrivals receiving Newstart ineligible So it IS "Generous" by World standards.

Have a look at Denmark's social welfare systems. Health, education, public transport, etc. etc. Far superior to what we have here. But, and this is the big but, Danes pay awesome amounts of tax, in many cases well over 50% to pay for all this. Their GST is 25%. Not that long ago a referendum was held asking the Danish people if they wished to continue paying large amounts of tax to provide the benefits or if the benefits should be reduced and user pays introduced. The Danes voted overwhelmingly in favour of the current system.
In this country we can't get self-employed and investors to pay any more than a pittance of tax under our current Income Tax Assessment Act. Perhaps we need to up the GST to 25% and remove many exemptions. A turnover tax to replace income tax would sort out the rorts and lurks used to reduce taxable income. "Your business received $3,000,000. Send the ATO 5% of that, $150,000, and right now". "What do you mean you have not got it. You received it. It passed through your books of account and your bank. Find it and send it".

Almost Every Other Advanced Country Has Higher Relative Social Security Benefits Than The U.S.
We are not in the top 10 welfare countries according to this report.
Countries With the Most Generous Welfare Programs
Of course, systems vary greatly, so comparisons are not easy.
Still, I think this demonstrates it is wrong to say Australia has one of the most generous welfare systems. It's just wrong. We just don't.

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
“Australia has one of the most generous welfare systems in the world, Thats why all those bloody refugees are making a beeline for Australia.”
Ah, NO it’s not. ...They are fleeing war, famine, religious and political persecution. That’s what makes them refugees.
It has nothing to do with our decidedly average welfare system. Refugees are not dole bludgers, queue jumpers, illegals or any other I’ll informed anti-refugee slogan you want to throw either.
If any one of us were in the same situation we’d do anything we could to get to a peaceful country like Australia.
