Good move. I have a $20 a month Woolworths pre-paid for similar reasons.
When Telstra terminated our ADSL service as we didn't sign up for nbn I told them to jam the phone service where the sun doesn't shine so no calls muffled or otherwise I have a $15, 12 month prepaid mobile plan with Aldi and turn the phone on once a week as the bloody bank wont authorise a pay any one without sending a sms code.Any other calls are deleted and the numbers placed on the blocked list. Email only for this grumpy old bastard

Hi,
Telstra have a phone set that is based on Qualtel technology. It filters your calls with a message asking who is calling. If nothing is heard it hangs up. If it detects a voice, the phone rings and you hear the answer.
Now you have 3 options.
1) Block the number.
2) Answer it this time once.
3) Put the number on a white list so it is not filtered any more.
The phone comes with 1 master phone and as many slaves as you want.
Only the master has the option of editing the filter.
Note, the above is my recollection of what I read, it may well be wrong.
Cheers
We finally switched to NBN on 12 Feb. hasn’t worked for more than a few minutes at a time since. Telstra are unbelievable. Long waits, get told I have to wait to have it monitored as “not working to expected level” - too right as it is not working.
Twice I have had return calls at 4.30am abs 4.45am - obviously can’t tell in India if WA has a different time to east coast.
The problem is that blocking numbers is useless. Your phone has no way of knowing who is calling. Call display is not a trace. It is just a number sent by the caller and can be made to be anything. All of these robo calls are from countries without any telecom rules. They are not domestic calls.
Telstra are unbelievable. Long waits,
Not surprising when they keep cutting staff & offering huge redundancy payouts, of course the lazy bastids will **** off.
A cable fault here resulted in a 2 week wait when all they knew they had to do was sling a new length of cable up. Many mobile calls later to find out why & when.
"Too high mate, gotta arrange for a Cherry picker" & more bull****e.
When a Can Do tech arrived, he had it fixed in 3/4 hour using an "olde fashioned extension ladder" type thing. WOW!
Some of them from the sub continent are bloody useless.
Download an app called "Who Called Me". For mobile phones only. (Who still uses a land line?)
It's a real-time database of dodgy numbers. Your phone will intercept the call and either let it keep ringing or it will hang-up on them.
If they do get through you then mark it as dodgy and next time they call they are dealt with accordingly.
It's a community growth app. The database grows with the number of users and amount of reporting.
The downside is some people have mistakenly registered legit numbers as dodgy and you then have to call them back. (Somehow my bank was on the dodgy list but I still received a call register therefore able to call back)
Great app and filters all the brown you don't want.
I am one of the who who still uses a landline Lol, I have a $30 yr prepaid Mobile Phone , a phone not a mini PC and it is never turned on i only have it in case i break down on the road to ring up the RAC or for when the Whiz bangerry NBN ****s itself and takes out the Landline . I must say since not answering the landline for numbers with out call ID and just letting the answering machine talk the calls the nuisance calls have slowed right down . Thanks for the advice though mate .
