Although I understand the the storm is adding a bit to the king tide, this scenario happened every year in my street in East Brisbane( Ashfield street near Norman Creek)
the water would rise up the gutters to my house and be a great place to ride your bike. At the end of the street there is a small round park which was above the water but surrounded by it.
nothing to see here and definitely not sea level rise.

    Hi Philip.

I use to own 19 Flower Street at Woolloongabba (runs between Deshon and Maynard streets) and yes it gets water coming back up the drains and flooding the street. I remember one Friday night back many years ago (a number of years before 2011) wading through chest deep water to get house to see if the elderly lady (who was renting it at the time) was ok. I sold it in 2010.

The photo shows two Defenders - a 110 and a 130. I just wondered if they belonged to anyone on here.

That looks like it was taken from the vicinity of Tripcony's slip and boatyard. Always overflows there at king tides or high tides and storms in combination. The river always got over the bank at New Farm Park between the ferry and the powerhouse at king tides. High tides and heavy storm rain would back up over parts of Brunswick, Welsby, and Sydney Streets and Lower Moray St. and Oxlade Drive as the full river prevented the stormwater flowing out of the drains. Million dollar+ units in that part of Oxlade Drive now. The owners don't like getting their underground car parks and the Bentleys flooded.

The storm has not added to the tide in Moreton bay. Only those areas exposed to the winds are affected. Inside Moreton Bay is only affected, at the moment, by the normal King Tide.

I recon the Gold Coast is an area that would be badly damaged, if hit by a cyclone or a major rain depression, together with King tides,as most of the city isn't built very far above sea level.

The area has had massive growth since the '74 floods, the result of cyclone Wanda, which by the time it was near the Coast was virtually a rain depression.
