Hi,
I wonder what the situation is at Pt Cook then. That is where the RAAF fire training school was.
They used to spray the stuff around with gay abandonment when I was there in 1970.
Cheers

Oakey has similar problem
It's not as if they sprayed the foam everywhere , they had a small area where they lit simulated crash fires and then extinguished them . I dont recall in 5 yrs ever seeing them spray the foam outside the fire training area.
They saturated a few pilots who just got their wings but that was water.
Seems the Oakey problem has spread to local creeks and underground water.
I'm thinking perhaps if the retardent can leach through the ground maybe they can do a regular water bombing in the effected areas and hopefully break it down.
RAAF Tindal is also effected by the pfas circus.
There is a former training area no bigger than a rugby field where they have built a machine which collects and scrubs the water then puts it back into the water table.
Local media drove a wedge deeper into the divide between locals and base personnel by claiming the government had built a filtration plant for the base personnel before building something for the town water.
So even after trying to subside the issue at the source before it was made even worse, people who lived in the area serving their country coped all sorts of abuse.
These are the same people pouring diesel oil on driveways to keep the dust down.
The testing they do weekly has indicated the spread of the pfas in the direction of flow of both the Katherine river and the water table. There is no indication that the levels are getting worse. Unless of course someone somewhere decides to lower the acceptable PPM, which seems to happen regularly.
Now I don't think that this issue is a non-event, but what I do think is that a lot of people really don't know what pfas is and the actual health effects. Everyone I have had a "conversation" with on this subject alway refer to it's health effects and what is happening in the US. What they don't recognise is the difference between pfas and pxfas.
Again there is an issue which needs to be fixed, but the scare mongering needs to stop, as well as the negative attitude towards defence personnel.

When I was fire fighting instructor in the RAN, we tested a product called AFFF. Best thing ever for ship board fires, worked on a number of levels. Are we talking about the same stuff?

Obvious ain't it, the latter can only be bought at the px.
