    carport kit recommendation

I have the ok to build a double carport at our house at Wynnum, to shelter a 110, RAAF trailer and the TVan. I can build one from left over materials 4.5 x 5.5m (just need posts - easily sought), but it will be very tight. So Im considering a double carport kit. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Most of the major players that sell ( Lysaght/Colour bond) sheds and carports are much of a much ness. $ should probably be a good guide. Just remember if someone is hundreds of $$ cheaper in a carport worth a few grand, there is usually a good ( for them ) reason.
Is council approval and engineering involved. If yes you may not have a choice but to buy a kit. If not then purchasing the parts maybe cheaper. What area are you building in ?

    Thanks, in Wynnum Brisbane.

I have a hardwood bearers and joists, and roof sheeting from a carport previously attached to our house. So just need 6 posts with brackets.

I’m trying to work out the certification requirements now.

I probably not much help with the wood side of things but I am reasonable sure Bunnings and the like will have info on DIY carport stuff, particularly if they think they can sell you some of it.

If it's in Wynnum and you want to do it on the up and up, you will need at least N2 ( W33 in the old money) wind rating , If your palce is exposed to the bay, the council may up it to N3 ( W41 in the old money).
You'd have to talk to a private building certifier to get that number, you may also have to get permission from your neighbours to build closer than 1m to the side fence line or closer than 5m (if I remember correctly) to the front boundary.
The sheds that bunnings sell are good but have a lot more bits to screw together than the other brands, hence the price difference.

    Cheers Glen.

When we built our double carport in Springwood we investigated cyclone ratings. The Brisbane cyclone rating carport is not as strong as the Cairns rating, which has an extra set of beams. We paid extra for the Cairns rating to get the extra strength. We bought the kit and our son, a carpenter, erected it. It was worth the extra cost.
Another point is height. We made sure it was plenty tall enough for our 110.
There are also some rules about footings, but I can't remember the details. Your council should be able to advise.
