Might help on this terrible day.
Nothing can atone for the terrible news from New Zealand but here is a story from the opposite end of the spectrum.
This occurred some years ago when my daughter, who has special needs, was at second level education. While having dinner I asked her about her day at school. She said that while walking in the school corridor she got hit by a plastic bottle thrown by one of the boys. I was a bit alarmed at this. Then she said that he ran over to her and said he was sorry. He said that he was throwing it a someone else but managed to hit my daughter instead.
Someone told that she gave him a hug and continued on her merry way.

If only all diplomatic tensions could be settled as simply. Says a heap for her/your bringing up.
Top marks to her Spud.
One can't help but wonder what Mr Bottle Thrower turned out to be though. U. S. President springs to mind.
