    Oh Dear!

Driving home from town this afternoon with my d-i-l and two grandchildren (she is learning to drive), my d-i-l asked if she could drive from the front gate. All went well until about 150m from the house, when she failed to straighten from a sharp turn quickly enough, resulting in a collision with a tree. Impact was on the RH end of the bull bar which bent back allowing the tree to impact the turn indicator and side light, tearing the outer panel of the mudguard loose and crumpling it back to about the middle of the wheel.

I have not determined yet whether the inner guard is damaged but it looks like at least replacing the bull bar, outer panel, front panel, top panel, blinker, side light, light trim, eyebrow and headlight protector, plus probably a lot of other little bits & pieces and painting. Any suggestions as to likely cost? - I won't be able to get any quotes until Wednesday, since tomorrow is, of course, Anzac Day. It is insured, and it seems the excess will be $400, but I'm sure the cost of repairs will be a lot more than that.

well, i hope you instilled in her the value of listening to instructions,
and didn't rev the daylights out of her for her accident.
as for the cost of the problem,
maybe you should leave it for a while and offer to take her for another lesson, to get the 'oh no i can't drive' scare out of her
you know, like falling of a bike, you don't learn if you don't get back on.

Guess you'll be making a trip to Emu Plains for Ron's bullbar.

Lucky she didn't drive into the house! That would be twice the pain.

I may be able to deliver it to Orange on the weekend. Depends upon on how heavily loaded the County is. I'm clearing my garage of a lot of my son's stuff.

    Dunno exactly where JD lives.

Thanks to all of you - but with any luck my insurance company will buy me a new bullbar - we'll see. I'll take it into town on Wednesday and get some quotes. I have already lodged a claim by phone and they do not appear to be going to be difficult, but we will see after getting some figures.

I live between Dubbo and Dunedoo.
