SupporterThese cat 4 and 5 cyclones are Not uncommon in the Pilbara and all the buildings are built to withstand them, This isn't the case where cyclone Trevor is going to impact in the gulf country.
I recently spent 5 months at King Ash Bay which is about 60k out of Borroloola and none of the buildings there are built to a cyclone surviving standard and I doubt that the most buildings in Borroloola are built strong enough either.
Both communities are also prone to flooding/storm tides as is the road in and out of there.
Most of the people at King Ash Bay head into the Heartbreak Hotel when a cyclone is imminent and they usually take their boats/caravans with them
I have survived a few cat 4/5 cyclones and it isn't much fun and I hope the people in the NT and the Pilbara play it safe during these events.

SupporterMy son works on a oil/gas production vessel off NWWA. In response to the predicted TC, the production crew have been evacuated, dropping the mooring and preparing to sail the vessel out to the open ocean.
Althouh TC Veronica is predicted to cross the the coast between Karratha and Pt Hedland early Sunday, people we know as far south as Margaret River, are preparing for what could be "another Alby"
