Keeping politics and religion out of general discussion on AULRO makes sense. However I also believe that certain cultural and social topics are wrongly confused with political and religious topics. Sweeping these under the carpet in a private forum goes against the importance of open public discussion. Subjects such as racial diversity, discrimination based on gender or sexuality, mental health are all subjects I believe should be openly, respectfully and publicly discussed.

IMO, in the context of AULRO it comes down to whether the forum is about only the mechanics of Land Rovers, or also about the cultural context in which these vehicles exist. I’m interested in both, but many don’t seem to be. Land Rovers are cultural icons in my view, which require more than mechanical knowledge to navigate. The Australian cultural context, it’s history and future are inextricably linked to the means by which we travel this country, particularly in terms of vehicles which are designed to do so across a diversity of terrain and which define our relationship to where we live.

As demonstrated by the strength of the wider communities reaction in support of respectful discussion around many of your topical posts, I believe it would be the right thing for AULRO to not shy away from such important public discussion.

However as I’ve stated previously I will be guided by the mods and will keep my discussion to Land Rover specific related discussion until further notice.

    Cheers, Zeros.
As has been stated several times, CA is NOT a private (boys club) area. It is open to any member who wishes to join in with a few covenants (respect, tolerance, etc.). Not sure how many times this has to be repeated.

To your point about diversity, discrimination, gender, etc. being confused with religion and politics, I personally believe they are all entwined at some level and historically us humans cannot separate them sufficiently to allow them to be openly (and respectfully) discussed on a LAND ROVER forum. There are a multitude of places to discuss them (including CA) that would have a significantly greater benefit/outcome than in General Chat on a Land Rover forum.

P.S. Did I mention this is a Land Rover forum.

    Hi,
You don't really want to read the writings from a schoolboy's toilet wall.
    Trust me.
    Cheers

Come take a look, we’d love to see you in there. 👍
I should take you up on that. But it may be a bumpy ride. Don't mean to be pedantic, no offence meant. But in my experience , you open a Pandora's box when you have sites that need secret hand shakes or invitations to participate. When sites can vet participants, you can get situations whereby only those of a particular bent get selected. It may not happen now, but in the future....? Democracy demands openness. [ I think that's a word.]

We’d be happy to have you aboard. No secret handshake, just say the word and I’ll sort access. Take a look around and if you don’t like it, all good, nothing ventured, nothing gained, 👍

On the democracy bit - Internet forums aren’t in any way democratic - they’re all dictatorships no matter which way you look at them on any subject - play by their rules, or play elsewhere. We are lucky here to have a benevolent Dictator in charge here - I’ve been on a lot of forums that have very sadistic and mean Dictators at the helm.

Say the word and we’ll get access sorted. 😊

Bob, I'll type this slowly for you.
    THERE IS NO SECRET HANDSHAKE.
    THERE IS NO SECRET PASSWORD.
    THERE IS NO VETTING.

Nobody has ever been denied access, or had access removed, from CA.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

My metaphorical statements, all. Never meant to be taken literally. But I get your point. Hope there's no vetting. Last time we took an animal to the vet, it was put down.

Go on then. Someone has to sort you bastards out. Racists, white supremicist's et al will be set upon with a vengeance.
