Yates Crossing another nice spot on the river. Spittin' distance from Tabulum, too.
This weekend I went to see if Tabulam Bridge was okay after the bush fires as it is timber, the longest timber bridge left in NSW I believe. Good news it's still there but they are building a new concrete one and are going to remove the old one as maintenance is too expensive. I was hoping they'd keep it as a foot bridge tourist attraction, but they are going to de-list it.
It's about a 5 hour trip from Brisbane if you want to do a lot of dirt rd driving or 3.5 hrs if you go via tar roads, or you could spend a few days in the area as along the dirt way there is Koreelah Falls, Toolum Lookout, the anti-tank pyramids on the Clarence river, and much more.
Along the tar way there are Bean Creek and Toolum Falls, Old Bonalbo where the Olympic canoeing/kayaking Lawrence sisters are from, etc.
It's also pretty close to the 14 Condamine River Crossings, Queen Mary and associated Falls, etc.
So something to add to the bucket list perhaps, not sure how long before it's gone New Tabulam Bridge project - Northern NSW - Projects - Roads and Maritime Services
Cheers,
Randy

I used the old (single lane) bridge on Tuesday - the new bridge will improve the crossing out of sight - I understand what you mean but I think most users will appreciate the improvement - I would say it will be a quite few months yet before we get to use the new one.

I stopped and took some photos about a month ago, they are prepping for the demo.
Didn't they build a new one because the old one was unstable? Having seen the Clarence river in flood, and the old bridge being on the upstream side of the new one, removing it makes sense.

Unstable for road traffic maybe but what about foot traffic and as an open air museum piece?
