    Funerals......other options

I’ve been researching options....so that it’s clear to family on what’s to happen..mainly because my Dad hasn’t got long and has chosen just to do the standard.

Oh...just getting in early, hopefully I’m around for a few years yet.

I try and do my be for the environment....chipping away here and there.

Firstly no formal funeral for me....I don’t see the point of long lost cousins, friends you haven’t heard of from 20 years ago or family and friends I have heard from for 12 months, work colleague that I didn’t get along with but work think it’s the right thing to do to suddenly feel the need to come say goodby. If ya haven’t said g’day to me recently than its a bit late to st goodbye.

No viewing as well...Jesus’s I’ll be dead and those close to me would have seen me plenty prior.

My research tells me you need to be in a coffin to be buried or cremated....but I see there is an option for shroud and and I see there is a natural option as well which a shroud can be used.

Always thought being cremated and not grave site was the go but maybe not.

Natural is most appealing as it better for the environment and they can plant a tree above me which will continue to work hard for the environment, i flowering tree to help the native bees as well..

I also read that it popular to be embalmed...the embalming process slows the decomposition mainly so friends and relatives can view you....it’s not very environmental l. So no embalming for me.

    In summary
    - natural in a shroud with flowering tree planted
    - no embalming
    - has to have said g’day in the previous 12 months to show up at the gathering.
    - no formal ceremony, no powerpoint of photo, no music, no flowers
    - a gathering to plant the tree after the ditch has been filled. Oh and leave a natural bee hive.

Is there any other obscure/alternate options out there that others have researched??

Wheelie bin? If you are under 70 kgs our local garbage trucks will lift a wheelie bin and off you go to the landfill which is not much different to a standard burial. Of course the various authorities might be displeased with this method of corpse disposal.

    (a) So long as a well meaning & unaware neighbour doesn't think you have been left out on the kerb for too long & puts you back in the alcove/driveway/behind a shrub or if you get hit by a car.

    (b) Some thieving bastid doesn't nick the wheelie bin, but I guess you would become someone else's problem then.

Oh yeah, Red, Green, Blue or Yellow bin of choice? Weekly or fortnightly pick up? (Whatever happened to the 1/2 a 44 gallon drum?)

Nope nothing else, I think you have all the ground covered.

Sorry can't help but take the **** but I hope you'll be with us for a long time yet.

My wife and I are registered body donors. If we get accepted at death, medical science can do what they want with us. Our daughter is OK with that.

Thanks Ron.......might look into that, is there a backup plan for your daughter if you’re not accepted.

funerals are supposed to be for those left behind to build a bridge most tell me, the others argue it to ensure the repose of your soul

i know where i'm going, was the first bit of land i had to buy, way back in 77...

what they do prior to placing me in that hole is up to them, but they are all well aware where i want to end up, at the end of the day.

    i hope it's a long time coming....

    No, just normal funeral.

NSW has a body farm (not far from here) adjoining the property of a chap I know. Inside the secret Australian body farm helping real-life CSIs - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

We might end up there if we are are accepted.

No big $ funeral , just a straight cremation and ashes where ever . been to enough funerals now to realise who gets the real benefit out of them .
