Sea Urchin roe, Am I missing something?

i love seafood and recently see on Tv that people raving on about sea urchin row, its a delicacy. Comments like exquisite, creamy , delicious etc. Yesterday at the SothMelmMarket they were selling sea urchin row in the opened urchin. $8 a urchin, some vendors were selling a tray of row on its own for $50!
Curiosity got to me, well if you like the taste of an over powering weedy and a horrible bitter fish gutty type taste. Is this a delicacy? Am I missing something?

Well, you've certainly piqued my interest with this. I'll have to give it a crack, next time I see one for tasting.
However, going by your review, I'll start in moderation.

I am partial to several dozen oysters at a time.

1/2 oz oysters fresh shucked from the same vendor finally killed the taste

I tried some in a tiny tin shack in the fish markets in Japan. It was mixed in with rice and several dishes. Honestly really enjoyed it. Perhaps it is how you prepare and serve it? The other question might be where from. You like oysters I see. NSW, Tassie and SA all get a variation really only noticed if you get them all on a plate at the same time. Handling as well. I love Sushi and the bluefin tuna I occasionally catch have ice inside and all over them with in minutes of them jumping in my boat. I treat them better than royalty. They taste better than any I can buy.

This way with sea urchin roe looks good

Even oysters aren't as good as they were when I was a teen. I had a dozen the other night, only eleven worked.

I dived for urchins as a sideline to abalone diving in the 70s
and have broken spines under my skin to this day!
The colour of the roe affected the price and some disreputable operators dyed the eggs yellow
