My wife had her card skimmed. (front and back numbers)

Took $14k in three transactions in about 60 mins. The bank didn't even realise (which bank you ask?).

It was by a legit company were it was being processed however they clearly didn't care where the money was coming from as no secondary transaction number was requested. (no confirmation sent to mobile phone)

It was being processed for online gambling with an office in Sydney (horses).

Generally we keep the account low and if this was the only account with some clams in we would have been stuffed for house payments and other bills at the time.

Got the money back but took some time (2-3 weeks).

Moral: 1. Don't put all your money in one account 2. Don't connect secondary accounts to cards by default (otherwise they will also empty those).

I am not a supporter of banks or their behaviour but I must admit with a recent incident we had our business bank was excellent.
I had to order some equipment on line for our kitchen, at the time I was very busy so I asked my (then) kitchen supervisor to do the order & I would do the payment.
After he had done the order I was tied up with a customer so I gave him our Corporate Card & told him to do the payment.
NB I did not give him the PIN.

About 2 weeks later I had to get rid of the kitchen supervisor due to other issues regarding his work & mainly his attitude.

I then got the CC statement for the preceding month, I didn't get to check it for a few days due to other work. When I finally sat down to go through it I was shocked! Airfares all over Oz, Pizzas, cigarettes, haircuts, bus fares, you name it. I immediately got onto the bank & stopped the card. I then did some long winded on line report to have this Ex employee perused for fraud.

The bank refunded all the money that had been defrauded, they also gave the police a heap of information to help their investigation.

So I am now slightly happier to pay the ridiculous bank fees.

Yes absolutely have multiple accounts and don’t link them. Makes it just a bit harder for the bad dudes

    Yeh

My credit card got clipped for $12k last year over a 2 week period with some one billing their google AdWords account to it. Bank West didn’t pick up on it and when I brought to their attention they said I still had to keep the account in good standing while they investigated.

It it all was sorted in my favour but the lack of transparency or an explanation of the investigation given I could have been liable was distressing at the time.

End result is there is a lot less business going through that card.

    cheers
