    Defender Tanami Specification ?

I bought a '95 Defender Tanami in 1999 but couldn't find out the exact specification for this model. The info supplied by the dealer was different to the info I got from LR Australia.
Does anyone know the original spec ? Even better, does anyone have one of the original sales brochures ?
I've seen two others (as they drove by) and realised that mine has the full length decals removed and a hand painted copy of Les Hiddins hat & signature added to each side.
LR Australia listed the Tanami decals, roof rack & ladder, Bull Bar & bonnet deditching tools as the only extras on the Tanami.

    Any help appreciated.........Gromit

    Hi Gromit
I remember having a good look at one of these in Barbagallos(Perth) showroom back around 1989 whilst getting my nissan(falcoon) company ute serviced.
The one in the showroom had the shovel holder(and shovel)possibly a pick or something similar(memorys a tad hazy),roofrack, snorkel The Hiddins decals, aircon, and white Disco steels. The salesman almost sold me one,but having a fully supplied company ute I just couldnt justify buying it.
At the time I thought it was one of the neatest Landys I had ever seen.I did have all the brocheres, but have shifted house 3 times since and havent seen them in many years.I hope they are still around in my Landy mag collection somewhere as I guess being read the once and in pristine nick.

From what I can remember they had the following additions

    LR(AR Bull Bar

Knife Fork & Spoon Holders (Shovel,Axe & Pick) on the bonnet like the Army perenties

    Safari Snorkel

    LR(AR Full Length Roof Rack

Special decals full length desert scape along the length of the car with the BTM's hat pic and signature towards the rear and the Tanami decal on the front doors. No Defender stripes

Interior I think had A/C as std and LR cargo/dog barrier

They may have had a towbar but I think it was an option.

Wheels were standard white Defender steels.

Umm, I think they were white Disco wheels - not Defender. I have one brand new one for sale - it came off a Tanami..

I can't say I've ever seen a Tanami in the metal. When did this model get released? Was 1995 the first of the model?

    Hi Moses
I had a 1989 XFN Nissan(Falcoon ute with nissan badges) ute bought brand new from Barbagallos. It was in getting its 1500km service when I looked at the Defender.
The dealer only did the first couple of services and then we switched over to the closer Ford dealer(MUCH CHEAPER).
It would be interesting to work out if Im wrong.I cant figure out any other reason for being at Barbagallos at the time, the only other possibility is the company owners also bought a pair of new Rangies at around that time,I gave them a lift to pick them up when they were delivered.A new EA Fairmont Ghia and NA Fairlane were also bought at around the same time for other employees(BIG BOOM IN BUILDING INDUSTRY AT THE TIME)

    Guys, thanks for the feedback.

Mine has std Defender rims (may have been changed by previous owner) plus all the other options mentioned so far.
I don't recall the two I've seen having Disco rims but I was so surprised to see another Tanami I probably wasn't paying attention.

The Defender product manager at LR Australia claimed that between 100 & 150 were produced (he didn't have exact figures). But his specification details don't quite match up with your feedback so who knows ?

    Thanks, Gromit

I was hoping lloyd Allison may hae had some info on his site but he doesn't. I could have sworn I saw info there once before but I must be wrong! 8O

There is a bloke advertising his Defender as a Tanami in the Drive site - but it's green and doesn't have all the Tanami accessories. This appears to be the same American who was advertising it recently on eBay and targeting US buyers by quoting values in the US$60,000 region.

I emailed him and said it wasn't a Tanami.
