This is taken from the latest 4X4 and campertrailer trader magazine. They have a Defender Buyers guide in it this month.
[I]In November 1994 , Rover Austalia realeased a limited edition Tanami version of the four door wagon. The Tanami was promotes by bush tucker man Les Hiddins and featured a full length roof rack, a roo bar with twin 100 watt driving lights, a snorkel, a shovel, axe and pick strapped to the bonnet, a radiator insect screen and Tanami decals. The Tanami retailed for $42,995 I]

Andy - Are you sure about the year - according to the post above it was released in November 1994. And AFAIK there was a gap between 1990 - when the last of the countys were sold off, and 1992, when the first defenders were sold in OZ.

That said, I remember seeing a tanami at a brisbane motor show - and maybe my memory is playing tricks with me, but I seem to remember it having lift-up (county) door handles, rather than push button (defender) type.

So either the tanami was introduced in 1990 to get rid of the last county models, and re-released in nov. 94, or we are both wrong...

Btw - there is one that parks at sth perth which I have seen a few times, looks tidy.

Ron that is extremely interesting. The plot thickens.

Because if memory serves, Graeme rolled that car on a trip & wrote it off. The tyre came off the rim.

Again, if memory serves.. ... Graeme had fitted 7.50R16s to a 7" rim. I recall asking him if that really was ok. Presumably they were disco rims.

    I could be wrong.

But if any Tanamis were fitted standard with the disco rims it puts another dimension on the wheel load rating debate that regularly resurfaces.

    Regards

Removing the full length decal & the Defender decal make a big difference (so would cleaning it !)
Decals were removed by the previous owner, he also got a copy of part of the rear decal painted on either side.

Previous owner ran an electrical company, when I bought it there was evidence of a company name on the rear passenger doors. Would have been very confusing with the decal, the word Defender and a company name down either side !
