    North Straddie Stuff to do

    Hi y'all,

Spending the long weekend at North Straddie, any suggested destinations. Camping at Brown Lake I think. Wife is planning trip, I'm busy making repayments.

    Cheers

Not much to do around Dunwich but it is probably the best place for supplies when you get on the Island. I go to Straddie to relax. We generally camp on Main Beach bu there are camp grounds all over the place especially around Point Lookout. The Gorge walk up there is a good way to spend an hour or more, you get great views from up there and its fantastic for ocean life spotting. Its a bit early for the whales but on a good day you will see lots of dolphins and rays and turtles etc. The Pub also has good views above cylinder beach but I heard it was being refurbished recently so it may not be open. It was known as a bit of a rough joint a few years ago but has a good mix of people now. Blue lake is nicest of the lakes but it is a bit of a walk now. The vehicle track took you all the way there a couple of years ago but it is a km or so walk each way now. The keyhole lakes that run on the inside of the dunes along main beach are also worth a swim. Apart from that there is plenty of fishing all over the island from beach fishing to rock fishing (be careful) and you do paid fishing tours to the reefs surrounding straddie.

    Have fun.

We used to go every year when I lived north of the border.
I suggest you try the fishing, then when you've had enough of that.....try some more fishing.
If you find fishing a little boring in general, try adding more beer

There have been large fires there this week. Were initially blamed on a campfire ( a rash assumption) but turned out to be some loser with a home made modle hot air balloon  . So no doubt they'll be banning campfires there now anyway :!:

Blue lake track is closed, and I hear the lake is closed to swimming anyway. It's not worth the walk in anyway. It's not that good.

ALL of the 4WD tracks on the island, as far as I know, are closed indefinitely. (permanently I'll bet). Bastards !

Apparently Redlands Council are looking to ban camping on Flinders Beach too. God knows why.

This leaves only the beaches for 4wdriving. I agree the keyholes are fantastic. Well worth a visit. Trust me. Great place for a swim.

    The groge walk is great.

The PUB I'm sorry to tell you has been demolished. Apparently there is a desparate need for more large unit blocks to house rich pr1cks. I'm told a new pub of some sort (posh wine bar is my guess) will open in its place. A shame, this pub was very nice and very cheap and had the best pub view in Australia !!

Point Lookout / Main Beach has good surf if you are that way inclined. Watch out for sharks.

Rock fishing is also good. Don't slip. Watch out for sharks.

As with most islands petrol is bloody expensive. Watch out for sharks.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".
