I was very disappointed I had to work and couldn't get to th G4 in Bangkok the other day, as I was going to post some pics. So I posted the link instead.
I think the problem might be the G4 has become more of a superfit triathlon round the world pose event than a 4WD event. 4WDs are almost a sideline in it, unlike the Camel Challenge.
Land Rover has gone a bit overboard in the promotion of lifestyle ahead of the vehicles they make I think.
Landy owners have lost interest in the event.
I am with you guys.
I have tried really hard to get excited about the G4 but it just does not do it for me.
Yeah, I am one of those who loved the Camel Trophy because it was actually the pinnacle of 4wding/team endurance -- it was the 'Olympics' of the offroad driving.
G4 is confused.
For starters, its name conjures up images of a poorly attended world economic conference, but more importantly, it is not seen by anyone as being the 'olympics' of any of the disciplines involved.
As a marketing exercise, it does not work because I don't think the target market (whoever that is) even knows the event exists. It gets no coverage in the mainstream and tokenistic coverage in the 4x4 press.
At the end of the day, those beautiful Landies are nothing more than glorified 'orange taxis' for contestants in Land Rover's version of the Amazing Race.
LR could better spend the $$$ on some really good advertising campaigns/ambassadors  .

have to agree guys, when the concept was first launched it looked like it was aimed at jo bloggs to give them a chance to do something extreme with land rovers, i applied and got know were soon realising it was aimed at super fit guys and gals who run up mountains just to warm up, not ya average pie chips and walk the dog in the park person.
