A Stelvin cap is a different way of sealing a bottle and certainly doesn't imitate a cork.
Corks allowed somewhat 'controlled' interaction between the wine and and the atmosphere, allowing the wine to lose undesirable things like H2S and let oxygen in so the wine 'matured' to a desired quality.
You can cheat with caps and speed the process up but IME the quality has to be there to play with.
Drinking a single vineyard $80 Barossa shiraz tonight, warmed by the fire with the cap loose for an hour, all the volatiles gone and quite pleasant.
I'll leave half the bottle for tomorrow night and see what it's like.
That's $80 a case.
cheers, DL
Only in looks. I used to have some bottles with corks that had lead caps on the necks..............
then it was all aluminium.
Remember my 'method' only applies to one particular wine.
There are other methods for other wines. Recently opened a Bests 1993 Bin O shiraz and a 1992 same at two different dinner parties. Had to dig the corks out....... bit of 'treatment' and both were exceptional.
Treatment involved a pot of water on a stove.
cheers, DL

cheers, DLWhich you are not at liberty to divulge but a PM would go a long way to help seeing as there are hundreds of brands on the BWS shelves.Remember my 'method' only applies to one particular wine.
Limestone coast, not far from you.

Only about half way to Mel. Think Mount Gambier.
Ya learn something new everyday.
Without external aids ( google, etc.) does anyone know what a "semordnilap " is and offer an example. I freely admit that a couple of hours ago, I did not even think there was a word for this situation.
I do now, sort of half a palindrome.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
