'Conservative' as long as a kangaroo, emu, ....... didn't get in the way [bigwhistle]
things change "London Marathon runners were given a surprising thirst quencher during their run: edible seaweed pouches filled with a sports drink. The seaweed pouch campaign during the marathon, which took place yesterday on April 28, 2019, helped to reduce the use of hundreds of thousands of plastic bottles. Marathon organizers have grappled with the sea of plastic bottles left over after over 40,000 runners quenched their thirst with single-use bottles of water and sports drink."
Port Fairy Marathon will be my first plastic cup free event. I take and keep my own drinks I think. Not taking seaweed this time[biggrin]

The only remaining question is how marathon runners felt about a new and unusual way to stay hydrated.
Who ****ing cares, if they don't toe the line there will be no point in having a Marathon in the future 'cos when they eventually reach the finishing point they will most likely find it under 10' of water anyway.
A great idea, maybe we will see Pepsi & Coke even Coffee Milk in similar garb one day. I won't hold my breath though. I bet the Plastic Bottle manufacturers were not a happy lot. No idling away their lives in the Med for them any more.

Oddly I think the cokes, Pepsi and Coffee Milk .... will all be wanting seaweed bottles. Would not need a use by date if it just rotted away a few months later.
Issue might be rotting sea weed can stink plus [biggrin].
Trivia the blowfly lava in rotting seaweed washed in to the water can bring whiting and other fish in and on the bite. I know that wont help my running[biggrin]

Yep I think they still have a little bit of work to on that front or we'd be surrounded by the stench of rotting milk.
.
If you think it will affect your running I could always become a pace runner for you.
How many metres is this event, 20 you said?[bigrolf]

When the season and tides were right and the seaweed had been washed up into the storm water drains Redcliffe used to take on a certain odor. Let’s hope the processed variety loses done if it’s pungency. Or perhaps not as it might discourage littering
