More than sure many of the selfish or nefarious types getting 5 k fines may cry poor or I really hope get the sheriff office taking cars, motor bikes, TV's and similar toys off them when they refuse to pay[thumbsupbig]

The fine criers feel it is revenue raising of course. Personally I smile vindictively with a evil nasty grin thinking of the Vic Sheriffs office meeting up with those who mean to run red lights, mean to speed in stupid places and the nefarious types and anti social sods contributing stopping me visit my family [smilebigeye]

Honestly had I cleaned his steel enamel cup. For 20 years it had been rinsed only. I diligently careful to not scratch the enamel mug had it sparkling clean as new despite him having in for more than 20 years.

He kindly explained later when his blood pressure dropped that brews in enamel mugs was only tolerable after a year or five of coffee, sugar, milk build up masked the horrible taste in a new enamel cup. I thought Chief [bigrolf]

Nomenclature varies from place to place. In most (all?) Australian jurisdictions, the Sheriff is an officer of a court who does things like organising juries etc.

In many US states the sheriff is the head law enforcement in a LGA, effectively the "Police Commissioner", although this is usually an elected office rather than an employee. Most police forces in the US are run by the LGA (mostly, but not always, a county or city, but for example, in Louisiana, it is a parish).

And for another bit of trivia - my brother lives in Houston, Texas, and is in Harris County, which covers most of the Houston metropolitan area. The title of the elected head of the county, whom we would call a Mayor or Shire President, is Judge Lina Hidalgo!

As I recall a lot of Sheriffs got shot (well in westerns they did so no ****ing around just BLAM) so he'd better watch his arse or it might be one of his Posse that does him in.
