I took my wife's Hyundai i30 diesel Premium for it's 4 year / 70,000km service (only done 40,000) & received a phone call to say it badly needed two front tyres worn on inside edge & for two tyres fitted & balanced would be almost $700 ( no mention of needing wheel alignment ). I told them I knew that brand of tyres were under $200 each As I had already replaced one not long ago after one of the back tyres had been run flat. So declined there offer. Next day went to my local tyre dealer to order two new tyres , they had a look & said nothing wrong with the tyres but would pay to do wheel alignment. So as we are about to do 2000ks trip I booked in next day for tyre rotation & wheel alignment. Also the dealer had recommended we service the injection system , which I aggreged to as it dose not do a lot of ks since then the engine has a dead spot just over idle when man overing in & out of parking spaces . I am not sure if it was the injection system service or computer up grade they did that has caused the problem. My problem is I can't make it do it as it dose not do it all the time & dose not affect the running of the vehicle . I have spoken to the dealer a couple of times about but am still waiting for them to call back , it has been 2 weeks now.
I THINK THERE SERVICE TECK SHOULD HAVE GONE TO SPEC SAVERS.

A mate has a Ford Ranger which he has always serviced at the selling dealer. Three times on the trip home with a freshly serviced vehicle the hose into the inlet manifold has come adrift. This is just a flex hose with a worm drive clamp. One would think that a supposedly "A Grade" mechanic would know how to tighten a worm drive. Once is perhaps an error of omission but three times is sheer incompetence. The jolly old engine management system senses the loss of pressure and goes into limp home mode. He has shown his wife how to put it back on as she has been the driver on two occasions. It is soon out of warranty and will never return to the dealership.

The answer is No.
The problem is that dealers often 'try it on' and the same goes for some independants.
Our old Territory was out of warranty so next service off to an independant. We asked for a 'logbook service, nothing else' by the time they added injector cleaner & oil flush additive it was more expensive than the Ford dealer. Now gets serviced at the dealer.
I moved away from the dealer at one point because the service tech was a knob. The alternative dealer I went to asked if I wanted the wheels balanced because they 'go out of balance as you drive'. Declined and next service returned to the original dealer ( the knob was no longer there).
I've found you have to 'train' them so they know not to charge for extras, if they do I don't pay.

Dunno what it is with dealerships attitude but it starts at the salesman and goes through the whole dealership at every level.
Right from the get go, you have this constant feeling of distrust , you can feel it in your guts.
The guy next door had a similar issue with a Ranger about 4 yrs ago.
His was the intercooler hose.
Being a diesel mechanic,he had a good look at things after it blew off for the third time, and found it was fitted the wrong way around.Once turned around,it never came off ever again.
Daughter has just picked up a demo 2018 GT Kia Sorento. We agreed on price - which was good. And then - nothing. No attempt to on sell us anything. No paint protection nothing. I was impressed. Picked car up today 7 years warranty 7 years capped price servicing 7 years roadside assistance. It’s quieter drives as good and has way more fruit than my 2012 RRS. Boy have they come a Long way.
