Anywhere near tram or rail lines?
Hi All,
I spotted this building while on the way to work today. Note the big exhaust fans on the roof?
Any ideas what could be inside the building?
It’s in the inner city (Fitzroy I think).
Cheers,
GG

Hi All,
It's on the corner of George Street & Alexandra Parade Fitzroy North.
You can see the exhaust fans on Satellite view.
In one direction it's a few blocks away from tram tracks (Smith Street)
And in another direction it's a few blocks away from tram tracks (Brunswick Street)
The building looks old and un-loved...
Cheers,
GG.

Some sort of water board building, e.g., pumping station. See the big gate valves on pipe work.
Google Maps
From Wikipedia: The Fitzroy Gasworks was erected on Reilly Street (now Alexander Parade) in 1861, dominating the suburb, with the Gasometer Hotel located opposite.[
Maybe gasworks related?
From Wiki again: Fitzroy GasWorks
While much of the site has been demolished and modern workshop and store buildings erected, there are a number of historic features. The former valve house is located on the corner of Alexander Parade and George Street,[7] and while a Porter prefabricated iron building is located on the northern edge of the site.[8] A further building remaining from the gasworks is a bichrome brick store which was identified in heritage studies but has not been included on heritage registers.[9]

Thanks p38rover - it's a pretty impressive building (even if it isn't in use anymore).
Travelrover - who knows, you can never have a big enough workshop...![]()

This is one of my favorite buildings around that area, I always thought it was part of a foundry.
