What's the Boom outside in the car port?

My sister rang this arvo she was very distraught. She heard a boom out side and went to investigate and noticed the hazard lights flashing on her focus. Then she notices the smoke coming out from inside her car.
Seems the main loom runs under the dash top and something has shorted in there.
Shannons are picking it up to go to Mannheims on Monday, it was too late on a Friday to fetch it as Mannhiems would be closed . Sher only recently had a mobile mechanic fit a new Alternator the 2 days later had to replace the near new battery under warranty.
Lucky she spotted it before the house possibly caught fire

I don't know, but it melted in the centre of the dash top, the boom may have been the windscreen as it is all burnt and cracked where the fire was

What's the Boom outside in the car port?

Quite a few of Fords models are known to spontaneously combust including the Focus and Kuga but Ford won't lift a finger to fix or explain this.

This looks very concerning - what would have happened should your Sister have been driving the vehicle at the time. Most other reports say 'a bang from under the bonnet' but one like this in the cabin is far more serious IMO. What year is the vehicle? If it's under warranty it should go through the OEM and not insurance.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

Wow, didn't know Ford had gone back to using Lucas electrics.
Glad everyone is OK, could've been much worse had she been driving or the fire had spread.

Gav, it was a 2004 model only driven to church on Sundays type. I went to a ford dealer today and purchased a later model replacement focus with "driven to church on Sundays milage." So this should see my sis out for a long time.
    Cheers, Mario

Shannons quickly settled within a couple of business days agreed value no fuss, always been happy with their service.

Heather searched and found a replacement car, another focus ( Suits my Sister) 2010 in mint condition inside and out with 42,000 kms on it. from a ford dealership, it drives like a brand new one.
sister is a happy hamper again, with all the mod cons like DSC lots of airbags , hill assist abs etc etc. even though a 10yr old car lots of stuff she never had on the 2004.

Incidently, the excess was paid to Shannons , and bank statement shows AAMI as reference, AAMI is owned by Suncorp, so Suncorp owns Shannons also

Don't want to come across as being rude here and apologies if I do and I am happy that she's happy but I can't help wonder why you'd buy another one of these after the last one exploded for no reason but maybe that's just me?
