Old Mate was lucky the tide was going out otherwise he would have been in all sorts of pain.
I beach launch quite often and the tricky bit is always the retrieve.
If it takes too long to get the boat onto the trailer the wave action will bog you down eventually so it is vital that you get the boat onto the trailer as fast as you can.

    Hi,
The locals at Sloping Main Beach launch from a very similar beach, but have a different technique.
The car never enters the water.
The trailer is rolled in on a length of rope, the boat floated off and the trailer retrieved by driving away along the beach, never straight up.
This breaks the suction of the sand on the submerged wheels.
Retrieval is the same, car on the beach parallel with the shore, trailer out on a rope, boat loaded and pulled out along the beach.
This is done even with 2WD.
    Cheers

We used to beach launch on the NSW south coast using big yellow blow up rollers , roll the boat on the rollers and as one popped out the back you put it under the front and so on , ok for smaller boats .

I liked a Broome WA version. Dropped the boat on the sand 400m from the water. 10 minutes later we were floating and water line was 400m past us

It's a pity Flinders doesn't have a decent ramp as it allows easy access to Bass Strait for the blue fin and mako fishos. Inside the bay there are good fishing grounds around Flinders and Balnaring etc, its a long haul from Stoney point, the nearest ramp, as you have to go around past the dangerous middle bank where the surf rolls across. A decent ramp a Flinders would make life easier.

My D2a V8 does it easy with tyres down to 18psi, low range and CDL engaged pulling a 5.4m Trailcraft out of the water.
Simply back in then drive the boat onto the trailer, All over in a few min and IF I get in strife it is No drama hooking up the spare Sarca anchor to the winch BEFORE I go down too far like the clown in the YouTube vid did
