    RINGING THE ATO- TRICK

I tried a few times to phone the ATO today, after listening to all the options and choosing , the end result was a recording saying all operators are busy due to volume of calls.
So I scrolled down their web page and found the switch board operators number which I rang and immediately got answered," hello" I said, "could you connect me to the department that handles X ?"
Immediately I was talking to someone that answered my enquires. LOL

I could post my daughters mobile no, she's an executive there, but she also has no sense of humour

Thanks for the phone number, after much time spent last week i gave up ringing but finally did find required form eventually.
Tha ATO has dumbed down its website and made it very difficult to find things now. The number is now in my phone.

I've been doing that for a while , find out number for the chief & bypass the indians Telstra , Aust Post , Bank , ect . You usually get through straight away or if not available they will ring back as soon as available. You can usually tell them what you have to say with out being interrupted by bull. The last time I rang Telstra the waiting time was 3hr's so rang Telstra boss & got straight through.

maybe we should start a thread of phone numbers to buck the trend of dealing with recordings and call centres

I found when I was active in technical and registration affairs with a large car club that writing to the Minister was a good thing. Now anyone who has dealt with Qld. TMR knows that if you ask four TMR officers for an opinion you will get four answers. So a reply from the Minister's office had the status of one of the Ten Commandments. Keep a copy in your car and you could tell any stroppy official that they should 'phone the Minister and say "You are a dill who doesn't know his ass from his elbow." " How much do you value your job?"

Centrelink has not published regional office 'phone numbers on White Pages for nearly 20 years since they started up the teleservice centres. The idea of which was to get the telephone enquiry work load away from regional office staff and get some work done without interruption. However if someone at a regional office writes to you there will be a contact number for that section (not necessarily that officer) on the letter. We found that clients who had a letter with a number guarded that number like a gold bar and made all their enquiries to that number. So numbers got changed every couple of years to scotch this little trick.
