HECS was the main reason I stopped study back in the '80s. If the government couldn't see the financial benefit to the country of me becoming more qualified and effective in my profession why should I bother?Quote:

I always have a bit of a laugh about this sort of stuff, people borrow to go to Uni etc, as a consequence of which, they end up in a very well paid job, then cry about having to repay the debt?

We didn't calculate our tax with the aim of avoiding a HECS repayment, we just thought afterwards that would be the result. We were wrong. The government makes the rules, not us. We're just trying to comply with them.
The government has lowered the repayment thresholds and some ways it is calculated.

No worries my friend, I don't know much about Hecs etc, I suppose what I get annoyed about is people "bleeding" about having to repay their Hecs debt, sort of expecting free uni etc, but getting their qualifications, as a consequence of which they qualify for to a very well paid job, (which they certainly deserve if they've studied for it).Quote:

Forgot to mention,..going to our acct today to get ours done!
I'll pro'ly spend it on tools or charity, and then get another peeved note on my tax file from the ATO saying my deductions are 1400% over the average for my category.
George the Defender is booked in for a serious service and some extras.
Recently did the PAYG and BAS statements for the last 1/4 of last financial year. Well over 20 grand left the business account. I don't expect to see any back once the tax return is done.
