Hey there muddymech https://www.aulro.com/afvb/
Ron's right.
My wife Jenny and I only recently joined the LROC Sydney Branch 4 months ago after purchasing our latest ride, a '00 110 Td5. Like any club, you can't just sit there and hope that you'll be accepted. You need to get involved. Given that, we've really found that the members of this club are deeply committed to the Land Rover marque, are very knowledgeable and are great fun out in the bush and at meetings. They aren't a club dominated by one model or another, and there are pretty good numbers representing RR's, Disco's, Defenders and Series vehicles. Ages are mixed too - but like any Land Rover club, there are a lot of older members - some of which have been in the club from the 60's when it was formed. It's actually the oldest 4WD club in Sydney. That's what you call experience! I couldn't recommend this club highly enough. We are very glad we are members, and have already made great friends who we also see socially outside the club.
Trips are on most weekends, and long touring trips are catered for as well. The trip calendar is already set until the end of the year, so it is very well organised ahead of time.
Come along to a meeting and say g'day!
Well not quite set, as of today I emailed four new trips to the Trip Co-Ordinater, one each in July,August, September & the October Long weekend not counting the 28 day Easter Trip to WA in 2007 & just posted on the website lroc.com.au and the 14 day trip over Xmas to the Vic High Country.
The Sydney LROC is a great club & I've been involved for over 11 years, 10 of those on committee, only this year because of my move to bush, I've taken a holiday.
Yes there are cliques like every facet of life, the work place for one, I'll bet there were cliques at school & all other groups of people that form a society, there is even a number of cliques on this forum. Mostly cliques are just mates that just go & do there own thing when it suits them & enjoy each other's company.
A lot of trips go to places out of reach to those not in clubs, they are organised, they carry full recovery equipment & for the large part well trained in off road procedure, and are covered for $20,000,000 public liability just in case.
A newby can't hope to get off road training experience going away with a forum group, a club trip for the most part helps new comers gently immersing them into the off road after training. I've been away with guys that shouted from the highest hill they had been driving off road for years, yet on the first muddy ascent in the High Country went to water & nearly over the edge because of NO EXPERIENCE in hard country & no training in stall recovery etc. Their total "years" of experience were jaunts to Central Australia & Darwin not getting into low range other than for a bit of sand, the Simpson hardley qualifies as off road experience https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ .
Another reason for being in a club is that a some of my closest friends I've met in the club & the half dozen friends I've introduced to the club, and yes you could say I had a "clique" in the club.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>Scouce is off down to Yalwal this weekend coming along with my family and a few others your welcome to join us.
Not always a reliable way to get out on a trip, in a club its all laid out ahead of schedule. Almost every weekend & every month up until April 2007 theres something for every one... social, medium or Tuff, your pick your choice or just stay at home & get on forums & rack up massive posts
Politics in clubs is like real life, only a few get involved, most without any life to speak off outside of the club, there mostly just passionate people that like what there doing and can be ignored, just go and have fun like we do and ingore that crap.
I remember someone on this forum so passionate with a hate for the club scene, left a very good club (couldn't get his own way) to be an individual again....guess what... started his own club months later    as unaposed "President for life".
Clubs aren't bad, try first & decide for your self & make your own decision go along & make yourself known at the Sydney LROC as a forum member & Barney & others will make themselves known to you to make you comfortable, it's easy
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>We meet on the 4th Tuesday of each month (except December) at 8pm:
The Veteran Car Club Hall
134 Queens Road
Five Dock NSW 2046
Yep, you always get blokes like that. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/
We had a character in the RRC an ex-copper, who tried to throw his weight around but it fell on deaf ears and now has left. He was on a trip I was leading and barking at me on how to ascend this hill, I just didn't take any notice and did it my way. He also tried to take over the orientation side of things and all his 'propsals' were totally imptractical.
Smart-arse, bombastic know-it-all tossers come and go from clubs, it's a matter of just not taking notice as it sure did work in this case.

Hi Guys an Girls
I totally disagree with some of the comments made “A newbie can learn just as much out on a weekend from here as with a club…( does depend who your with I suppose)
Club outings are OK if you wont everything set out I personally don’t rather have a cuppa when we wont to, rather than when its time.
Several of my acquaintances own one type of land rover or another a few years ago we all joined the LROC because we wonted to play in the Nissan trials and you had to be a club member so we all joined went to several meetings, went on several trips then put a motion forward at a meeting that the club enter the trials
Well I thought we’d started ww111 there were old gentlemen standing up wavering there arms about shouting over there dead bodies, were life members been in this club a life time never heard anything as insane you young puppies only wont to race ( I was in my late 30’s then so at least it made me feel a bit better) boy oh boy I just realized it was a long time ago……
Anyway clubs are ok if you like that sort of thing I don’t so will stick with the way I do it.
By ourselves or with a few acquaintances and if I may say don’t knock something until you try it.
Yalwal is still on.......

You got those sort of dickheads in clubs unfortunatley. I just do my thing, the rest can get stuffed!!! I say if you don't like it, don't try and stop people from doing it.
I have been a target of this because of the fact I like something a bit more challenging. I don't do heaps of club trips but I have met many good blokes so the membership has paid for itself in that regard.
Clubs are not for everyone.

"don't try and stop people from doing it."
Iwould never try and stop someone from doing anything ( in this context )
as My last post said Dont knock it till you try it
I just think its wrong to suggest that you would not learn as much on a weekend organised from here as you would with a club
I think its wrong to suggest that a weekend organised from here might not be equiped recovery gear etc etc as a weekend with a club...
And I dont spend more time racking up a big post count than doing
As I'v said again and again I'm not knocking clubs they have there place I just dont like em tried em and found em wanting
This is my last post on this subject cuz I dont like it.

I just can't see a bunch of guys going for a burn in the bush, wanting to take time out coaxing some new guy never been off road before in a new car in some rough country, & being responsible to get this guy in out safely & cutting into their driving pleasure.
I for one wouldn't & won't take someone untrained on a tough weekend, I'd not want to be responsible for someone with no training off road to risk life & limb & vehicle.
I go on plenty of trips that are not LROC related, just mates getting away like blokes do on this site, but your not obligated to look after any one but yourself, even though you do off course, just second nature to some.
Racking up points was tongue in cheek sorry if it offended.
I do agree with your comments re the Nissan Trials episode , I was there at the meeting "it was Discussed", & didn't aggree with the result, but those types of dinosaurs crop up every where. You should be there now & get involved with our "Tuff Trips" leave Nissan Trials looking like a training weekend (well sort off, again tongue in cheek).
I've also been on more than 100 trips with the LROC and most stops are around cuppa time & usually lunch is at lunch time, or when ever hunger stops the convoy, never at a designated 12.17pm stop for.... we must stop, never happens, I've never been on a regimented trip ever. Many times I've been leading a trip when someone has yelled out their stopping for a picture, squirt or nappy change without any one getting anal about it.
I am genuinely sorry your time with us was so dissapointing, I wish you'd come on one of my trips.
Cheers
