Hi Muddymech, I think hiline has the right idea find a few from your state on the forum go out for a weekend and your away, Not knocking the club scene but in the end there all clubs and you will get the “clicks” and the politics we tried that RR club, LROC club but in the end found that the way we do it is better……more relaxed

Scouce is off down to Yalwal this weekend coming along with my family and a few others your welcome to join us.

4WD clubs are good and bad. Good in the fact that you can meet likeminded souls and bad that it can be a political minefuied if you choose to get involved (I recomemmed you don't :!: )

I'm a member of the Gold Coast LR club, the Brisbane LR club and the Qld RR club (the letter I won't be the case from July, long story). The LR based clubs I have found especuicially in QLD are more 'off-road' oriented and there's more interest in harder and challenging trips which is more my thing (the RRC is a bit too'socal' for my liking. I'm not into winery trips )

Best off you do a trip with a club and get a feel for how they do things and if the group is for you. Some clubs are 'clicky' as mentioned and it is very off-putting.

The Sydney LR blokes don't sound too bad from what Ive read in there newsletter we get through our club. Good luck with it

In any club there will be cliques but I've not noticed that the LROC is that bad. I've been a member about 10 years, I suppose. I don't get to many meetings anymore owing to shift work - nor to trips as I get one weekend off each month if I'm lucky.

Actually, if we look at the true meaning of "clique" then I can't say I've seen it in the LROC.

noun a small group of people who spend time together and do not readily allow others to join them.

Thinking about it, someone from this forum has an advantage over the off-the-street punter who joins the LROC.

Here, you have already met fellow members (so to speak) or, in some cases, you actually have met them at a function, e.g., Ace's BBQs.

So when you go to a meeting, you have a chance to join with them.

I suggested at a club meeting (another club) that new members need a "buddy" system where they are taken under the wing of a member just to introduce them to others at their first few meetings, etc.
