Thread: Is over-washing making us unhealthy?

    Is over-washing making us unhealthy?

Yeah, I know, there's a lot of potential for jokes here.
But it seems not washing, particularly with soap, is a serious thing and lots of claims are being made that we are actually healthier if we don't use soap.
Personally, I rarely use soap, and I'm healthy, and don't smell more than normal, I'm told (cue smelly old fart jokes).
But, after a while back spending a week in the Simpson Desert only washing with a washer and half a bucket of water, I've gotta say I do think the amount of water I've seen some people use is ridiculous. I mean, does anyone really need to spend 10 minutes under a shower? I suppose when you live on tank water you become more conscious of not wasting water.
So, what do you think - are we over-washing?

Reading that article all I can say is anyone who hasn’t washed for a while or says it’s not required obviously doesn’t do much more that sitting around in an office all day because after I finish some of my days work, I can tell you I NEED a shower - not only to clean the dirt and grime off but I would indeed stink like the breath of a thousand camels within days...

As for using soap or not when bathing showering, I guess that just comes down to personal choice.

Anyone that feels they don’t need to wash at all - that’s just fine, but if this turns into another bloody crusade and I hear people starting campaigns like ‘we don’t need to wash’ like the vegan BS going on with ‘We don’t need meat’ I’ll bloody scream. 😁

Just been camping for 3 nights almost the first thing I did when I got home was have a shower. How you could go any longer is beyond me - and I’m a born and bred Pom!

Oh, and I don’t think I’ve had a 10 minute shower in my entire life - I grew up on tank water so always had Dad telling us off if we went over a couple of minutes - that has stuck with me my entire life.

Descended from English yes, but they arrived here in 1850, so I'm hoping the effects have worn off.

I rarely use soap and find that a good rinse is all i need, yes i'm offiice bound but i dont shower over the weekend unless i'm going out .
Even if working hard i'm not a sweaty person, Dr Karl K doesn't use soap either but uses sorbolene.
Over washing removes the natural oils from your skin that moisturises and protects it.

    Only 10 minute showers?
You mustn't have any teen aged children!
10 minutes is a rinse to them, all 6 of them!!

It takes me more than ten minutes to straighten up, after washing my feet.

I own up to being a Pom (47 years in and still saving for the airfare back....) but absolutely hate going on trips and not being able to shower and let that beautiful water run for ever over my gorgeous body......
The cook and I went to the Broome bird observatory some years and met an "earth" person there who obviously didn't feel the need to shower..... long hair in the armpits and a stink that was just so bad.
And for all those horrid people and their nasty smelly Pom jokes .... and as an ex bus and taxi driver I can tell you that lots of those who sound Ocker don't smell too good.
We'll stick to our normal routine when at home and use as much water as we want.
Keep on wasting that water people.

At your height you probably have to wear your distance glasses in the shower to see your feet.
