    Hello from Brisbane.

Never actually stopped there for a beer or meal, but it’s always disappointing to see another one bite the dust. Especially in small towns with few social alternatives.

Ebor lost its pub back yonks ago and managed to operate out of a shed for years before a new one was finally built. Guess they will find an alternative one way or another.

    Cheers,

I'm reminded of a story (claimed to be true) I heard many years ago.

The publican from a western Qld hotel was on holidays on the coast, and was having lunch with the publican of the place he was staying at when the barman came in and handed him a telegram.

The western publican tore the telegram open, glanced at the signature, and said to his friend "Gosh, me pub's burnt down!", and handed the telegram to his host.

Who read "TOO WET LAST NIGHT STOP TRY AGAIN TONIGHT"

Very sad indeed. I stayed in that pub about 35 years ago when we had a gig in the hall across the road , playing for a policeman's farewell party. The pub had a great big wood stove in the kitchen where they baked their own bread.

Really sad news. A lot of catering premises fires do start in the kitchen, usually in the exhaust hood ducts, due to the built up grease not being cleaned.
