    VALE Tim Fischer

EX Nationals politician, Tim Fischer, has died. He finally gave in to the cancer that he has had for some time. One of the few politicians I liked. Vietnam veteran,

    LEST WE FORGET.

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

Agent Orange has devestated the life of every person its come into contact with, their families and the generations that followed.

It really saddens me also that when there are so many great medical developments, especially in the area of blood cancers, that Ian Fischer wasn't able to have a happy story to tell.

It reminds me of how insanely lucky and blessed I am after having had the same cancer.

First of all, wonderful news , you are lucky and blessed. However, I really hope your first sentence is not correct. Every member of the ships companies of ships that sailed inshore in Vietnamese waters drank, and washed in water contaminated by agent orange. Here is the report.

Just read that report. Not good. I will pass it on to a couple of friends whose dads served in the RAN during that period.

Don't want to sound like a sook, but I'm sitting at the computer in a little bit of pain, from the surgical removal of two skin cancers from my face, so far I have had 3 Squamous cell, one invasive cell, and two basil cell carcinoma's removed, with a total of about 100 internal and external stiches, over a period of about 18 months. On top of that, three weeks radiation treatment, to ensure the invasive cell carcinoma didn't travel along the nerve ends into my brain .[ it didn't, and not because I don't have one, as suggested by my good mates] Definitely not looking for sympathy, or complaining. A lot of my mates are no longer here, just proves only the good die young. I'll leave it up to George Formby to have the last word.

One of my sons has battled CML,a type of leukaemia since 2001.He is 34 this year.

We are just thankful that he is still here, and leads almost a normal life, has a wife and two fantastic kids.

But its a worry we will have for the rest of our lives,as it will never be cured, just controlled with drugs.

As the youngest person in Qld to go on these new drugs,at the time, and not have a bone marrow transplant,no one knows the side effects over time, and as the body gets older.

    Terrible story.
I had huge respect for Tim Fischer. I wish there were more like him.
