I went out with the guys to Yalwal yesterday.
What an awesome day 4WDing. There's some really good tracks out there, buggered if I'd try rollover
hill though.
Anyway, I just want thank Justin (Lucy) for helping me out at the end of the day. My track rod had somewhat of an altercation with a rock causing it to bend a bit. On the way home it got worse and worse till the wheels were pointing in oposite directions and I had no steering. Mind you we were sitting on the steep sections at the end of the Yarramunmun, not a bad track but a nice slope.
We got the winch out, straightened the steering out ( I could've said straightened the rod, but it actually looked like a pretzel when we'd finished) Strapped the winch handle to the rod with a dog lead, and held it all in place with duct tape. We managed to get back to Nowra and park the car at Justins place by about 6:00pm at a speed of about 40km/hr.
So thank mate, and thanks to the rest of you for a really good day doing some pretty difficult tracks.

I bent mine at one of Aces BBQ's. THe Rumble in the Rubble NSW vs VIC event. Full wheel lock while slidding onto a rut going down hill. Made a nice bannana of it. Did a similar repair to you got the winch out and straitened what we could. It was interesting for the rest of the day doing 20 point turns on some tracks which others could navigate with ease. Did some more winch straitening back at Aces before driving home. New one with ball joints was around $150 I think. I still have the old one in the shed. I plan to straiten it and take it with me on long trips so I can just swop them over if I do it again.

Sounds like and exciting weekend. I am certainly not new to the whole track rod bending trick. Done it twice now. As a result i bought one of Discowhites steering damper relocation kits so i can move it off the track rod and infront of the diff, then i will invest in a HD track rod.

If things pan out i will hopefully get to join in on some of the trips east of the blue mountains. Matt

It appears a secret ballot was held for the trip report & lucky me won it again .
It might be a day or so before I can do it though, so here's a few photos from Sunday:

Sunday morning was spent doing chainsaw practise to clear the track

Then Rollover hill:

Then the powerline track:

It was a great weekend & the weather was perfect. Saturday night was clear as a bell & Sunday morning was just the same .

I thought it was a pretty good weekend for

I see morgan was working hard. A bit worried the bullbar might drop off back there scouse?

It stuffs me how Tony can see what he was cutting with all that smoke.

Cant wait to read the trip report and see the rest of the photos, the pic of tony coming down that rocky hill looks good. Matt
