I bought at 2001 TD5 earlier this year. Had 135,000Km on it.
It had quite a lot of clunking from the drivetrain which required the Axle Ends (not sure of correct name) to be replaced and a new A frame bush. 100% immediate improvement. Wasn't too expensive for the parts - $50 for each axle end and $75 for the A frame bearing. The fuel pump also needed replacing 'cause it was weeping a bit, and that was around $500 to replace & fit.
You also need to do a search for "Locktite" and "Oil Pump". up until 2002 I think there were a number of motors (not many as far as I know, but enough to be a worry) where the oil pump bolt didn't get locktited at the factory properly. When it falls out it destroys the engine. There are a number of threads on this topic.
Good luck with the search. Good ones are hard to find.
