We just got our renewal notice and I hope its competitive.
Rather than ring around the insurance companies , I thought the brains trust(s) here could give some feedback.
Its a 1996 ES Discovery- pretty basic with an agreed value of $16,600

GIO want $716.49 up front or monthly direct debit payments of $64.70
PLUS they want another $5.00 per month for the direct debit- thats an annual total of $836.40 so they don't mind sticking it to the poor people who can't pay that much up front.
I don't think we would have had a claim in 20 years. Anyone doing any better?
Cheers,

I'm sure we do better than that with RACV. I'll check tonight and let you know.
Used to be with Zurich who became Western QBE. Good price from them too when we were there.
You need to ring around every couple of years to keep it reasonable, though.

Will try to get back to you tomorrow.

We are with Alliance like Pedro and haven't been able to find a better price for what you get. Our 96 Disco V8i with rating protection and no claim discount is $469 with a $300 excess. As your Disco is an ES it would probably be slightly more, but it's worth a call. The price will also depend on the amount of mods you've got on the vehicle.

Cheers,

Wish I'd heard about Alliance a few days ago.
I've just renewed our 97 Disco with RACV at $537 for market value with $450 excess and no glass cover. I pay monthly, so cop an extra $75 per year for the privilege.
Last year we had Western QBE at was $711 for $15,400 agreed value, no penalty for monthly payments.

It seems insurance quotes can vary all over the place with no apparent rhyme or reason.
It pays to shop around plenty before committing.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Rhino & igould, it looks as though it is all relevant as your vehicles are at market value which I assume is the trade in value, mine, according to the red book (link below) is between $8,300 and $10,000 so it is a gamble if you pay more for agreed value I suppose. Thats the price of being pessimistic

It depends on what you can replace it for if it disapears forever. I better look at replacement values. It would be silly to over insure as I only want a fair replacement if it gets nicked.

How old are you though DeeJay? I am 25 and it cost me $655 with QBE, thats with full comprehensive insurance. Remember aswell that some areas attrack a higher premium as each area is assessed indivually for the risk of things like theft and the likely hood of you being in an accident. As a result of this it is very difficult to compare one persons premium with another. For example it was $50 cheaper per year to insure my car in Wagga when i was at uni rather than say it was garaged at home in Rylstone which was the address that was on my licence, needless to say i said it was garaged in Wagga.

just as a quick aside---

anybody ever heard of a Disco getting stolen?
I suppose some must,,
but with the D2, I'm buggered if I know how,,,
and even if they break a window to steal something, they still cant get the doors open

Car theives don't steal Landrovers.... The cops usualyy catch them with minutes, you see Lr leave an oil trail for cops to follow.
Oil leakes on Lrs are just another theft deterent feature.
