    Remembrance Day. Monday 11/11

I am a Veteran, and a Veteran is someone, who at one point in their life, wrote a blank cheque payable to Australia for an amount up to, and including, their life.

It is an honour to have served our country.

Please pause at 1100 tomorrow to remember those who selflessly fought for our freedom and never came home and those who came home damaged by their service for us all.

On Saturday we had a ceremony at the Sandgate Cenotaph for Sgt Vincent Joseph Healy, KIA Korea1951. His name was added to the Cenotaph , after his niece campaigned for years, writing two books. It was fitting ,Vince grew up in Sandgate, went to Sacred Heart school, his Grandfather had the butcher shop on the corner of 3rd AV. and Btn Rd,in 1924, the family home was next door .The shop is still there, I think it is called two mad sisters, but 3rd AV, butcher is still on the wall , if you have a close look. As his niece said, Vince has come home. His remains are in PUSAN Cemetery, Korea. KIA 7 March at hill 410 1951. About 100 family and friends turned up, as well as representatives of the Korean Military , and Government. Peter McNamara was the moving force behind the dedication, and it was a beautiful ceremony, with pipers and a flag party, last post and a poppy ceremony. Vince would have liked it. LEST WE FORGET.
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

My Wife & I will be assisting with our Remembrance Day Service at our Anglican Church tomorrow. Several years ago We created a "Gallipoli Precinct", where we have a Memorial to our Soldiers, a flagpole etc, which is where we conduct this service every year. We have a bugler from a local school to play "The Last Post" etc.

I was not very impressed today when I was the only driver I could see anywhere around me who pulled over. First thing I did when I picked my girls up from school was to ask them if they all stopped at 11. Thankfully, yes.

It is also our wedding anniversary. Deliberately, and with the blessing of those in our family who served. We had the ceremony mid afternoon to not interfere. And wrote our heartfelt thanks into our vows. A day of mixed emotions.

My lovely girl always reckoned this day as our anniversary. It was the day I turned up with a bottle, and never went home. She was right what's more. I was wearing a Poppy.

I never served, not in that way. Neither did dad. But my uncles, and my father in law....

On the site I was at, they made an announcement at 11 and played "The Last Post" the guys observed the silence, then started talking about WW II, pro'ly not realising this goes all the way back to the Great War a.k.a. WW I.
