    He’s towing - 3.45t

The major problem - shouldn’t be towing.... iirc it’s for 2,000km before towing.

GCM is 3.4 tonnes, so maybe towing about 1.4 tonnes? Our camper is close to 2 tonnes.

Mick, Put the wine down and read carefully.. Cunningham Highway?

His vehicle has a NEW engine.

When running in said NEW engine you are NOT to TOW for at least 2,000km

Doesn’t matter what his GCM is - it’s not to tow for 2000km

Do new vehicles still need running in? Mazda said just to drive our 2 like normal when we bought it new, and just did an early oil change.
Aren't the tolerances so fine now that running in doesn't achieve much, plus I thought it was good for them to use the whole rev range.
Besides, 2500-3000 is right in the middle of the torque range for a Puma, so if he uses the gears it should be fine, just don't lug it in 6th - change down.

Tks Tombie but I have to get home to ACT. Donk died at Mt Garnet from contaminated fuel, Trinity Motors at Cairns putting in a new donk sourced from Solihull. When the new donk is in I have to fly back to Cairns to collect car and camper.

Tuck in behind a B-Double crawling up the range, you’ll only be doing walking pace.

GCM for Def is 6500 kg.

Not a rebuild, brand new donk.

Very gently on the hard climbs then. Necessity can force our hands at times so be nice to it Cunningham Highway?

Should be well run in after cruising down from Cairns.

    Thanks all for the input.

The Plan is: Day 1, fly into CNS to collect the car from Trinity Motors, Day 2, do a Light Engine run up to Cooktown, stay overnight and return Day 3, an easy run of 500 k's. For Day 4 Def goes back into Trinity's wksp for a check and re-torque of fixings. Day 5 hook up the camper and head for Tewantin, couple days later head for home via Gateway and Logan M'ways, want to avoid long steep winding climbs this trip. Thence across to Goondiwindi.

On the run down the Bruce sit on 1800-1900 revs, yields road speed of 90-95. On this trip Def weighs in at 2640, A'van camper is 820.

Mechs tell me best way to run in a donk is to keep revs low but have a load to make it work. Did that running in a rebuild Series 1 engine two years ago, runs smooth and quiet, Rolls Royce would be jealous.

Def will be ready for collection about end of month. New donk was due at LRA HQ Melbourne last Wed, due in Cairns tomorrow at earliest.

Not impressed with Land Rover's arrogance in dishing out a five week wait to customers not keeping critical parts or assembly's in Australia, no consideration of the trauma and considerable inconvenience customer's suffer.

    Cheers all, tku, R.
