No there was a media interview run by the Greens lady where the other lady said the firies will go home an bash their wives. To be fair I don't think the Greens lady (Federal Politician) knew what the other one was going to say but it was a Greens media interview.

I have just come back from being deployed to NSW. Four day deployment turned into 6 days. I was at Singleton, Greta and Kempsey. I haven't beaten up my wife yet but I will be a bit wary when she comes back as she is being deployed Wednesday and back Sunday. Absolute rubbish comments apparently based on research from bushfire affected communities not Firefighters. As for working with Childrens check it is free for volunteers. Another ridiculous setup. I got mine on the pretense I would be going on a school camp with my daughter as a helper but then had to log in and get CFA on the card. Apparently the card loses its power or the children are different if that agency is not registered against your card. Ludicrous! At this point in time it is not a requirement of CFA for deployment but no doubt will soon be. [bighmmm]
I feel let down by the government in relation the dribble coming from them, however the communities we worked in and drove through treated us like royalty, clapping, tooting, waving, trying to give us money to put on the bar at the end of our deployment, someone bought us a box of chocolates for our strike team and when we tried to get home we called into Seasalt Cafe and Restaurant in port Macquarie and they wouldn't let us pay for our food! (This would of been for around 30 people) People would come up and chat wherever we went. It was amazing and uplifting. Poor buggers are absolutely spent and exhausted working on the fire ground or incident control centre. It will only end when they either get rain or there is nothing left to burn.

Too bloody right too. I don't think you lot that put your life on the line to support us poor plebs (and I include coppers, ambos and nurses in that lot) actually quite understand how much most of us "poor plebs" appreciate the stuff you do. And in fact, when we show our appreciation for it you get all coy and modest. Man up and accept our thanks because we either can't ( or don't have the balls ) to do what you do.Quote:

I honestly can't understand the outrage.
A lot of us need police and working with vulnerable people/children's checks just to do our jobs, it's just the way it is.
I'm a tradie, why do I need one?
We occasionally may work in a nursing home, day care centre, school or police station just fixing AC/electrical/ventilation gear and therefore may come into contact with students, residents, etc.
I've been an RFS member too, I'm surprised it hasn't been brought up earlier as you may be dealing with people at their most vulnerable.
