MoveLater2 130 Dual cab is coming out of the CFA soon and need advice for the station

Hello, its been so long since Ive been back. Life, kids, school and no Landrover havent helped in this
Moderator, please help me if I have got this wrong or in the wrong spot as its been a long time and Im not sure if Ive covered the rules properly, I did read them and couldn't find any issues?
Im in the CFA a we have a 2003 TD5 130 Defender dual cab (which I love using and few get the joy that does keep me smiling) with 32,500km. This is owned by our station and has timed out for a replacement (Hino 4x4 super/ultra light tanker ). The Defender is a great car with low Km, Im wondering what to tell the station is a fair price for this ute (NOT FOR SALE, yet. I will do this on the markets tab at that time) as they dont know what a great ute this is worth. The Slip On (Defender) has been kept in doors at all times other than being used, cleaned or serviced with no rust etc.
We have had an offer through the brigade management team that made me almost beg them to let me help them move it on to a Landrover addict like myself thats in recovery
It does have the fire fighting pump and tank in the back and Ive suggested we buy a tool box for the back instead. I would appreciate your thoughts on preparing the Defender as its fairly stock and a bit dusty, as I write this Im looking at the TD5 on this Code Red day hoping we dont get a call because it will truly be a nightmare
My aim with this is to help our Station get a fair amount for it and that money goes back in to the station account to help is fund new/replacement gear that we require for the new ultra light tanker.
Geez Im starting to miss my 3.5 Disco lately

Please dont laugh as I drive a Captiva now
    Jim

My exRFS 130 dual cab td5 with 24,000kms in 2012 cost me $24k, including alloy tray and bar work (Yamba), but no pumps, radios, sirens, winch etc. It had no air-con.

I then spent $4k having rooftop air con installed, and $4k on replacement 15p AMC head which leaked diesel into coolant at 40,000kms, and $3k on mods to tray to make it flat so I could put on a Carry me camper slide on - so in the end it was no bargain - but I love it.

Wel, speaking as an old used car dealer, it is very hard to put a fair value on an old low k's good original condition car. It is 2003 which to a dealer makes it an old pos which would normally go straight to auction if traded in particularly at a new vehicle dealership. However good original old cars should sell at a premium over a run of the mill 2003. If it is going to have the specialist gear on it then it is probably only attractive to a fire appliance collector. Probably get a better price as a cab/chassis/tray body. Is there a magazine or web site for fire gear collectors? Detail it and advertise it on this would be a start. Sell it by tender or well advertised public auction is another alternative. If there is a large clearing sale of collectables particularly tractors and engines near you see the auctioneers and try to include it in that. These sales commonly attract prosperous older collectors who often pay crazy prices.

I was going to be a smartass but I’ll refrain something to do with a slab.

Is it worthwhile, or have you checked with other smaller stations to see if they may want it.
I think that you’ll find there’d be a few who’d be tempted to take it off your hands for a “discounted “ type price, (do you need to make extra coin from the sale?) and if no station wants it, then add a few grand and put on the public market.
Sometimes larger farms/stations go in together to buy a unit and share it. Just another option.
Sorry I can’t help with a price,, good luck though.

Pictures are rarely indicative of real condition. The provided description has proffered enough information.

    That is a ridiculous statement!

Pictures do not tell the whole story, but they would certainly provide much more information then the very basic description provided.

Pictures are usually highly optimistic. So it's not a ridiculous statement.

I get where you're coming from, but he's not trying to sell you this vehicle with pretty pictures, he's trying to work out what a fair asking price is. From the tone of his post's I'm sure if he did choose to provide pictures that they would be as honest as he seems to be.

I stand by my first post.

I know exactly what Stu is trying to do. Stu and I have conversed by PM re this thread.

This is a pertinent time to point out that these "What's it worth" type threads are not usually allowed in this area. This is an exeption, due to various circumstances.
Unless exceptional circumstances are at play, these type of threads will be deleted.
