Helen and I have picked a lovely time to have a two week, fishing break to the Southern Gold Coast.
There won't be too much done, with all the fresh run off.

Luckily, North Burleigh SLSC and Miami pub are within spittin' distance. Only for the tucker, mind!

Not too much drama so far, going for a drive to check the Pine R, & avenues on the beach front, they may back up this high tide. But they are used to it. Everything will be up high, and the beer fridge full. Getting the crab pots ready , those muddies will be flushed out of the green zone with all this rain, you have to be quick to beat those old timers at Shorncliffe. There's only so much room at the mouth of the creek.

50.5mm in the gauge this morning. I am planning to drive to Yass tomorrow. Some exploration drillers have got bogged on my usual road out, blocking the road, but I am fairly confident I can get out unless the river comes up above the high level bridge in my neighbour's place, which I don't think it will. I went and checked the creek this afternoon, and I expect to be able to get across it unless it gets a lot more rain upstream.

And I think I can get to Yass, although the Newell is closed in multiple places, New England and Pacific are closed. Bells line of road is closed. Olympic Way is closed. Great Western Highway has one lane blocked by a landslide. MitchllHighway is closed in places, Barrier Highway is closed. But, at the moment, the road to Yas is, as far as I can determine, open, and likely to stay that way, although it is down to a single lane between Booroowa and Cowra due to a broken down B-Double.

Indeed. I used to live at Somerset Dam, north of Ipswich. Went there from Melb. Heard the locals one morning talking about "11 inches in 8 hours up Maleny way last night" So what, I thought..... well, that dam went from a sleeping little pond to a raging monster, and the Stanley went from a creek your five year old could jump over to a roaring torrent 20 metres wide in the space of hours.
I'd seen floods in Melb, sort of. I'd also seen floods in Sydney in the 70s. I'd never seen "run off" before. We lived a few hundred metres below the wall... NEVER will I doubt the power of water, ever again. And this was normal!?!?

It may get a bit windy and wet here on Sunday/Monday.
I am looking forward to a bit of rain but Hughie can "Shove" his wind where the sun doesn't shine.

my house is 40m or more above the flats so no worries about floods.

I have started my cyclone clean up around the place, Jeez its amazing how much junk you accumulate over the years..
When living in the Pilbarra a cyclone is nothing unusual But here in Geraldton it has been decades since the last one
