    Is it just me than can see the humourous side?

    Just a few minutes ago watched a bit of News Footage. One grab showed a bloke dressed in black with all the weapons & other accoutrements that the yanks are so fond of, standing outside the White House looking a bit furtive/shy.


    Emblazoned across his chest on his stab vest was "SECRET SERVICE" but he stood out like the proverbial Dog's Danglies. A bit like a cyclist I saw a while ago here. His traffic HI Viz consisted of an Army Cammo Jacket ffs.


    I know, I know, but it did look a tad ridiculous. What next, LED chaser lights with flashing red arrows?

    Reminds me of the Aus navy and when they updated their camouflage BDU [battle dress uniform] IE what they wear on most days and not the 'dress' uniform... Worked great with a nice disruptive camo pattern of blues and greys until OH&S came along and decided that the camo could not be seen!!! Ended up getting reflective tape stripes on the upper arms to make them more visible...

    I have often wondered why the RAN & RAAF need Cammo at all?

    RAN. Man overboard? "Bugger, we can't locate him/her."

    RAAF. If they can't find each other in the close confines of an aircraft maybe they really do need Yellow Reflective Hi Viz not cammo & not just the Ground Crew.

    The camo is vitally important...

    It allows the wearer to hide in the natural environment they occupy.

    The sky blue and cloud grey DPCU is exceptionally effective for RAAF members.

    I defy you to find one skybourn Airman.

    In actual fact,,, You try to find a single RAAFie in uniform after about say 1600, anywhere.

    Dave, have you still got the picture of the person in a driving position, hovering above the road?
    I think you're caption was along the line of, we've been got the vehicle camo sorted, still working on the personell camo.
    If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

    So the Navy one was a 1st class choice then, Dave? Fall overboard & one blends it with a choppy, broken sea? Wonderful choice, not.

    Maybe they don't fall overboard anymore? Maybe they aren't game to?

    Fall overboard? They rarely go to sea nowadays. Major ships spend their lives moored on Bottle Bank at Garden Island.

    Edit - In the last sixty years our matelots have evolved from shellbacks into depot stanchions.

    Maybe we could share the "Tongue in cheek" emoji I've been suggesting, if & when it turns up?





    Ended up getting reflective tape stripes on the upper arms to make them more visible...

    It now makes it easier to get plugged by antagonists when on deck. Another great decision.


    Also wondered why the stripes weren't on the legs ambo style. Silly ****er 4bee, when they are in the drink after falling overboard the cuffs are under water., so they got that part right.

    Don't know mate. I used to jump overboard every chance I got. I did think the drop from the flight deck on the New HMAS Adelaide would have been interesting if I had dive tanks on. Its about 27 metres. A mate who was a hard arsed diver (Clearance Diver) and I chatted and wondered how much trouble our mates who are rather high ranking types now would get into if we took a short cut to Lady Macquarie's Chair.

    The camo is funny. I think they look pretty good myself. Adelaide is a tri-service ship, Navy Army and Air force. Chameleon Camo Blue, Green and Grey



    You might be relived to hear any one of the several people I dragged out of the drink could be in any coloured clothing or none as only the head or Life jacket was visible above the water anyway.
