I suppose it's no different to what was the 'wireless' according to mum and grandparents when I was little yet was already in transition to the ubiquitous radio.

Mostly, marriage happened, Ian.

But, specifically, American TV happened. Sesame Street taught our grandkids, and Lethal Weapon taught us.

Not seen Sesame Street?? That show has the same 'pull' as Ronald MacDonald, with the same pernicious influence. it's hideous, but most people not only won't see it, but they will actively endorse it. Babysits the kids etc.....
