I rang the bank asking if I can cancel the term deposit- The bank phone person said IF I go into the bank they could do that for me.

I go to the bank- They made me wait an hour then said with out a vaild reason I could not do what I was told by the bank (phone) was easy!

Two months goes by and I have the money. Moving it to another place I often transfer money to. Those transfers are almost instant. The term deposit amount was a over the transfer limit. I call the bank who kindly increase the limit but it was still going to take more than a week to get my money. The bank phone said I can just go into the bank and they can easily do the hole lot at once (option 2).

I transferred twice and got the money on the spot two days ago and yesterday. Yesterday I scheduled another several transfers to get the rest of my money.
The scheduled transfer came out of my Bank account this morning at 5am but is not in my account several hours later!

I rang the bank asking What happened to my money. They told me transfers are very different to scheduled transfers. My scheduled transfer today might get to me in #3# days

Canceled the next scheduled transfers and went to do option 2 I go to the bank- They made me wait an hour then at 15:55 I was told as it was close to closing time the transfer they told I would have to pay $$ for them to do would not occur for a day or two!

Never had so much trouble getting my money from a bank I have been with for 40 years. Not happy Jan.

They did every time offer to record a complaint- All I want is my money. It is clearly much easier to be a grumpy old bugger
    BLOODY CHEEK!

I hear your pain. Lately we have needed to send & receive money via BSB. Each time we get a message to say summat about it is subject to a 24 hour delay for security reasons.
IMHO I believe they slot it into a hitherto unknown account & as there must be thousands or even millions being held in said account for 24 hours my guess is that it used by these "crooks" as a very short term "loan" as I cannot see these sharks leaving all that moola there & do nuffink wiv it.

    Cynical? Suspicious? MOI? You bet.

    Hmm,Banks,a regular PITA.

Wait until one day you have to set up a deceased estate account, what a PITA,and waste of time sittting around waiting, then find out,no we need something else, then yes we need a signature from someone else. And on it goes.
Then once it is eventually set up,try to get any money out.
More waiting around, hoping you have all the right documents, etc, etc.
Estate accounts cant be accessed online.

Ring up the branch, they never answer the phone, leave a message, usually its days before they call back, sometimes never call back.
Eventually when you do make an appointment, get there on time and one still has to wait, and wait, seems they think you have all the time in the world, and enjoy waiting, and waiting.

Eventually i carried a big fat folder with every document i had, therefore whenever they wanted to see some document,i had it for them.
And the acccount was set up at a bank we used exclusively for all our banking for over 40yrs,and the branch we had used for over 25yrs.

In the end,we ended going to a different branch, 30 minutes drive, but they were slightly more helpfull, and returned calls when we left a message.

Anyway, that is my latest grump about banks.

I am surprised they didn't ask for the deceased's signature & for it to be witnessed.

The above problem is easily solved with a hell of a lot of foresight & grit in having a Joint account from the off. I know, I know, situations change.

They sure did, certain things had to be signed by the deceased, and witnessed, luckily this was done before the departure.

This thread encourages me to give my experience in the last few days.

On Monday, looking at my card statement, I found a new box on it titled "Your regular payments". That sounds useful. It had two items in it though - one was a perfectly legitimate regular payment, the other was a one off payment via paypal for a freezer seal a few weeks ago. This started alarm bells ringing - are they going to pay them this every month?

So on the phone. Thirty minutes on hold, before I actually got to talk to someone. "Not my area, I'll have to transfer you to Card Services, please hold". Twenty minutes later the call was lost. So when in town yesterday I went to the local branch.

Took my name, "Take a seat, someone will be with you shortly". Half an hour later "Only one ahead of you".

Finally got to talk to someone. They were able to tell me that the regular payments also included anything that looked unusual!

So I wasted a total of several hours just because of a misleading heading on the statement.

Cripes! This is what we are finding via Combank. No branch to call into these days all Banks in Stirling have closed, yep every one, you were very fortunate. It is go to the City or Mount Barker, neither handy & close by.

Their phone offered services are woeful with progs. set up by a 4year old kid from the child minding
crowd. Now, a !0 year old could have done it properly.

Phone disconnections. We are finding this a problem in recent months & it seems like there is a timer on each call that scrubs it over a certain time needing one to dial again, this time with a hint of Murder in one's voice. Telstra? Who knows? This has been happening over time even with Coles & others.

Most banks seem to be raking it in, & now we know why. Sell the properties, sack a lot of staff, overheads reduced at the cost of the bottom line , Bonuses etc.
A good example is a rundown I read recently on the Reserve Bank Governor & his perks & Salary (& lies). OMFG!

It seems that everything becomes too hard for them to assist their customers.

Maybe Paul could start a new perk free Bank? Or Inc?

Scinc (or Inarry) Bank, world famous throughout Brisbane, with multiple branches, one northside and one southside.
A couple of more honourable coves, could never be found.
Once Paul's vans have run their course, in the role of keeping Queensland comfortable, they could be utilised as mobile bank branches.

Imagine the Australian banks are no better at software than those in the UK. Their problem is they have many many different systems operating all doing specific tasks. These have been purchased on an ad hoc basis on the advise of a sales person who has promised this will solve all your problems. Now linking all these together has happened slowly over many years. Attempting to untangle them is the stuff that even the best quality Valium would not be sufficient to cover the stress. Even today when something is changed no one is sure where it will then cause so unexpected problem as no one knew it would impact somewhere seemly unrelated to hat part of the business

Know of one instance where the Irish credit bureau link was within days of being severed by a change as no one in the UK knew what they were doing had any connection to this. What they were working on was UK account management based and had no connections as far as they understand outside the UK

When reading the call centre stats the abandoned calls number is invariably played down as people ringing up and repeatedly hanging up. Now why would they do this I asked? The one they cannot hide from is the average wait time. Although you do not know what the company has determined is an acceptable average time for this. They will say can fix but requires resources which will cost. Followed by silence in the room.

Needs government legislation to give a maximum wait time for this to be fixed. Competition has not worked as. No one wants the ‘increased’ cost when we have saved all those shekels closing the branches which used to do this kind of thing
