Go back to Paper Brad? Getting paid cash at sea was interesting. Ships had a CBA branch on board. 3 months plus cash deposits by myself and others using passbook and deposit slips.

Back in Sydney for a well-earned brake I tried a brand-new ATM. It said I had no money on a Saturday. No cash! Monday morning opening time at the Bank in Sydney who told me despite my passbook showing lots that their records did not match my passbook!

A Coup de ta in Fiji had occurred a few days prior. All Deposit slips for all transactions were sent to one main support ship and then taken to the bank to reconcile to sailor's accounts. Guess which ship went to Fiji with the paperwork for thousands of sailor's bank accounts

I hate paper after medical and other seeing 1000s of records got lost damaged or otherwise detained myself.

Yesterday I made a small Paypal purchase for a part I need for the D1 currently in bits. Unable to process as linked card inactive. Oh **** I thought.
Went into the bank website - account restricted. Oh fun.
Got on the chat box, requested a human 7 times and eventually got one.
They greeted and said how can I help. I told them. They disappearaed for 15 minutes.
Then they came back and asked for all the ID info I could give them I said" before I hand over all my ID how do I know you are not a clone site as your behaviour ( disappearing for long periods between responses with no explanation or apology) and the wording of your responses doesn't fill me with confidence". They booted me out of the chat. Hmmmmm this is going well.
Phoned the bank 1300 number. Yes your account is restricted. No we can't tell you why. Call this number tomorrow. Great - so my account is locked, no reason, no reassurance it is safe, no information about any illegal transactions. All good. Just more great customer service.
I call the number given this morning. Re harvest all of my ID. Yes your account is restricted. It is because you have not updated your ID. We sent you emails 45 days ago. Yes you did - I assumed they were phishing emails. Yes I understand most people do he said. Just download the app and upload the 100points ID. I don't use the app I will do it on the PC. You cant do it on the PC, only a smartphone. I don't use the app. OK you will have to go into a branch to show your ID then they can reactivate your account.

Does it get to a point where the online insecurity will result in a global loss of confidence which will lead to re opening of physical branches I wonder...

I started getting the warning E-mails so I went into the branch with all my ID. The warning E-mails have continued but since they gave me 90 days and that was almost a year ago they just keep on coming. Nobody seems to be able to make them stop even though every single account states it's verified.

    Useless..

That reminds me when I was living in Darwin around 2005, in the letters to the editor section of the local rag a Victorian woman wrote in " I've been living in Darwin for 2 months and I have travelled all over the World bla bla bla and Darwin drivers are the worst I have come across. What is needed is a points system like we have in Victoria, you get 3 points for whatever and when you get to 10 you loose your license." I waited a day or two for the response. It came " I am a 65 year old male and I have lived in Darwin all my life and I agree with that woman from Victoria about the points system. Any idiot who comes with an idea like that should be given 3 points and when they get to 10 they should be ****ed off back to where they came from."

Interesting issue surfaced on the local news on the radio this morning. The ABS is running tests shortly on procedures for next year's census in a test area. Which includes my LGA (Warrumbungle). It will be very interesting to see if I hear anything from them!

I have had major issues with the last three censuses, eventually getting counted on the first two after strenuous efforts to get covered on my part, and not covered by the last one despite my efforts. In this last census I am certain that my next door neighbor was not counted either, or at least not at that location.

This contrasts with my experience in earlier years, with a census collector turning up in 1966 in the middle of the Simpson Desert, and in 1986 on our yacht anchored in great Sandy Strait.

With this area currently having no postal service, heaven alone knows what will happen next census.

    I hope so.

I had a much simpler one. I wanted to get out $100 for a marketplace purchase. I didn't have my physical card, but I DO use the app. Two different banks. So, tap to access at one of the few remaining ATMs. Listed in the app. I go there but these are NOT ATMs operated by either of the banks. Tap not available for this card, please insert card. Grrr. Luckily for me this time the bloke accepted pay id. I was miles away from home. They REALLY don't want us to have ca$h, I reckon.

Oh yeah. I read somewhere that we have reached the point where we have to prove to a robot that we are human. This is called "progress".

Like the phone calls from the Tax office from a Private Number demanding I prove who I am?

Never mind ill just ask them for a few billion $ next time when they call. Clearly they didn't check that much!
