SubscriberFifty years ago it was normal for me to be outside working in shirtsleeves at the sort of weather we had here today = 10degreesC.
Today, although in a light jacket, with a lined rain jacket over the top, I called it quits.
Looks to be better tomorrow at 12C.
Swimming weather is when the water is anything over 27C.
Have got to say that the fish platter is definitely too raw to consider being edible. But I won't touch prawns of the bbq size, cooked or not.

Try leaving inside arctic circle at minus 30 degrees and land Brisbane 24 hours later to walk across the concrete apron from the plane at plus 35 degrees
Two accounts to add to that - Working in Moresby in 1971, the daily plane from down south started at Melbourne. In July-August, it was somewhat amusing to see the visitors disembarking still dressed for an early morning Melbourne winter. A few years later, working in Melbourne, it was equally amusing to see the new arrivals from Moresby, who boarded the plane in the middle of the day, arriving in a Melbourne winter evening still dressed for the tropics.
In 1959 I was working as a field assistant with the the BMR, and my boss recounted his first impressions of Australia. Having completed his PhD in London, he had secured a job based in Canberra. Arriving there by air, only a few days from London, he was informed he was joining a field party out of Tennant Creek, so less than a week after London he disembarked as the only passenger to leave from a DC-3 at Tennant Creek. The airfield was deserted except for a group of the most disreputable looking tramps he had ever seen, leaning on the fence next to the leanto that passed for a terminal. Having no alternative, he approached the group, and asked if anyone knew of a BMR field party in the area.
The response, by the most villainous looking one of the lot was "Yes, this is it. You must be my new geologist!"

I had an opposite situation a few years ago, flew out of Australia mid summer to land Heathrow mid winter wearing shorts and t shirt , at least I had shoes on. thats 6am, didnt get to hotel until around midday where a quick change was the order.
Hi,
Hobart to Singapore in June '67 was different.
I kept going out the terminal door to experience the heat (and smells) before retreating to the airconditioned comfort of the terminal.
Can't believe I lived there for 2.5 years.
Came back in December and froze. Camped over Xmas on the banks of the Mersey river. The river was excruciatingly cold.
After our recent jaunt to the tropics of NT and WA I much prefer this cooler temperature to the torrid heat.
Cheers
