Years ago two blokes I know were having a 'discussion' about chlorine in drinking water.
Graeme's job was monitoring and dosing at a number smallish facilities around here and mentioned that if the water smelt of chlorine a little then it was a clue that more had to be added.
This would be confirmed by instrumentation before adding any.
Jeff's response was that if you went to the extreme and the water absolutely stank of chlorine then a lot more would be needed, which I thought was a reasonable argument.
Turned out Graeme (aka The Pig) was right. I can't remember why but there was an explanation of this on the web somewhere.
