You guys won’t believe this, but it is true.
We were spotting one night, just returning to the house, the track goes past the shearer’s quarters, and it’s sandy in that area, good for rabbits.
We see a rabbit really close,I aim at its head with the Savage .22/410,loaded with a .22,just as I squeeze the trigger,a black cat comes out of no where,we hadn’t even seen it,and grabs the rabbit.
Walk over and both are stone dead, head shot gets both.

Some life lessons you have to learn the hard way. Feral cat in the tree spotted at night. He decided to go under tree branch as was a better shot from there due to obstructions. Now knows that if you fire a shotgun upwards it then rains cat on you
My city based uncle visiting our farm with a nice new shot gun asked me to show him some rabbits. While on top of a mullock heap, I found several baby rabbits as I looked over an edge. My Uncle let go with both barrels for 6 dead rabbits range was about 2 metres!.
I collected and cleaned them. I am certain they died from the shock wave as none seemed to have any shot wounds at all
We have a "Husk" of hares on the property and they are quite a bit larger than the bunnies I was hunting. If they're grazing amongst the Redneck Wallies, they tend to blend in somewhat.
The hares don't do much damage, compared to rabbits. We occassionally get a pumpkin or two, devoured and I've had to wire cage the capsicums, eggplants, zuchs and the likes.
I've found that when they start on a certain pumpkin, they'll return to the same one until it's finished, so not too bad.
