    Wartsila Engines?

I noticed a small ad for wartsila engines and parts on the general forum page.

interesting ad for the LR forum.

    who has a wartsila here?

I looked up some data and I think the smallest one is 1100kw , has a 200mm bore, piston speed off 11m/s, pretty slow.

Was it one of the inserted adverts, not from someone on here?

Lots of internet listings on wartsila. Have a look for Sulzer. They made two strokes with opposed pistons and no valves. Bit big for a Land rover repower though.

Which design was cribbed from a much earlier German design. The French Gobron-Brillie car had opposed piston engines (vertical) around WW1 as did a few other engine makers..

Wartsila diesel marine engines were used to power Autralian Reseach vessels. CSIRO RV Southern Surveyor and RV Franklin were both powered by Wartsila
The Antarctic Division's supply/research vessel, Aroura Australis, is designed and powered by Wartsila
I spent a lot of time on the CSIRO research ships and the motors were reliable. The Franklin was built in Cairns and the Southern Surveyor was aquired in Europe as a dive support vessel but was converted back to its original configuration as a deepwater trawler. The Surveyor came with a spare motor which was fitted at the old Swan slipway in Freo.(now the site of the maritime museum with the o class submarine exibit) The side of the ship was cut open to change out the Wartsila motors
