Road toll rises

They pull grid. It’s NOT a logical thing.

Home battery systems that actually *do* something are double that capacity - 15kwh and that can barely sustain a 2 person household overnight.

You still miss the entire point though.

If the car is at WORK in the car park - it is NOT in the home driveway charging in the sunlight. It gets back there too late.

People who should not really be using a car to get to work may get away with it... I would have been stranded on the side of the road by 7:35am

These concepts (currently) work in high density low utilisation scenarios and nothing more. In these scenarios - Scooters are more sensible.

It’s not all you need to say. You’re quoting numbers and scenarios and they don’t stack up.

64kwh gives a 400km range (with a small safety factor for traffic, AC etc).

So it sits running the house each night and let’s say that’s drawing 10kwh out of it.

By morning it’s at 54kwh and needs approximately 16kwh to go 100km. So now has 330km range.

Goes to work, comes home and repeats. Let’s say 25km to go to work and back.

It’s down again by 4kwh and sits online at the house overnight. In the morning it’s down to 40kwh.

Repeat this each day....
Tuesday 40-4-10=26
Wednesday 26-4-10=12

By Thursday the owner can no longer drive to work! So the vehicle is now grid connected to charge. This requires a HV charger to do it effectively.

For the record, from a standard GPO the Kona takes 28 hours to charge....

Maybe, depends on demand, which could be a lot lower overnight than you have assumed in many premises. And it could recharge at work or while shopping.
Change is inevitable. It's going to happen no matter if we accept or resist it.
I'm interested in figuring out what it might be like and making it work in my life. If others want to fight it, that's their problem, not mine.

In most cases - That would be theft.... No different to taking an employers Hydrocarbon Fuel to top up your vehicle.

Unless the employer agreed, and then at 28 hours to charge on a GPO you'd be asking for a high current charger? And no longer be using 'free' solar.

Yeah, but the change to what? EV's is not an inevitable change at all because I highly doubt the technical issues with recharging can be overcome on a large scale - there just isn't enough power, nor infrastructure, not even roof space for enough PV here or worldwide to make this work. It could by Hybrid, hydrogen, or something else with EV certainly being in the mix, but it won't be the only nor the most widespread technology in the future. Not saying ICE will be either, there's no 'one solution' for all of this but while there's oil in the ground, ICE will rule - and I bet that's for decades to come, not the 5 to 10 years all the fanciful fluff pieces jabber on about.

So What Exactly do EV's have that make them "Relevent" in a thread about the road toll or did I get it all wrong and the "Road Toll" heading is just another red herring so that people can get their climate change soapbox out In Yet Another thread?
